Hello everyone, I've been reading this photo digest for several years, and am finally taking the plunge and joining in! I have been a professional landscape gardener for over 55 years. I have been a photographer for a long time, having used it during my 38 years of teaching Horticulture at the Community college level as well as making photographic greeting cards, photographing informal weddings and events. I have used Nikon, Leica, and Fuji cameras with lots of different full frame and DX lenses. I've had the opportunities to travel with fellow photographers to Botswana and Zambia, Alaska on an 85' yacht, Eastern Sierras of California, Big Sur, Carmel, New Mexico, and other locations. I am a three time cancer survivor and now have Parkinson's Disease after tripping and bouncing my chin on concrete one time over five years ago which resulted in damage to the part of my brain that produces Dopamine. I am blessed to have a mild case, and am able to shoot with light weight gear. I am actively involved in my church, and I am thankful for God's creation and the ability to capture it in photographs! I plan to share some of my photos in the days and weeks ahead. I want to say 'Thank You' to everyone that makes UHH such a great place to share our love of photography. I'll start out with a few photos of a field of 'Pick Your Own Flowers' from a fun produce stand in Salinas, California called 'The Farm'. I really appreciate constructive critiques of my photographs! Thank you!!!

Hello everyone, I've been reading this photo diges... (show quote)

Dear Cathy:

Welcome to the UHH as a full member. I live on the California Central Coast. The middle of Central Coast in SLO Co in Grover Beach next to Pismo Beach. It seems most consider the Central Coast being from Ventura to Monterey or there about.

I am an avid advanced hobbyist photographer of Flowers, Sea Shells, my Wife, and Landscapes. And I have a few good lucky shots of Birds, my Pet Dogs, and Human Portraits. I started with film in 1977 but do essentially exclusively digital now. I still own many film cameras including two 4x5" large format ones. I do most of my photography today from a wheelchair due to several health issues including balance issues and sever gouty arthritis. When hand holding I have gotten creative a trip the shutter with a cable release with the trip button using my teeth so I can hold the camera with two hands. Well enough about me. Please post more of your beautiful images. - Mike

Mike, thanks for you detailed reply to my first post! I am impressed with your ability and desire to keep on taking photos despite your disability!! I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and graduated from Cal Poly in Ornamental Horticulture in 1975. Keep on pressing that shutter button!! :)

Hello and welcome!!! Congratulations on surviving cancer three times; that is truly an accomplishment. Sorry about your Parkinson’s but it sounds like you are not letting it stop you.

Love all your flower photos!! #9 is my favorite!!

I’m looking forward to seeing more of your photos.
