Seems like everyone likes to discuss their reason(s) for using RAW and/or JPEG,
and they do have them, and why everyone else should do the same.
But in doing so, they make it into a battle.

Yup, it shouldn't be a battle at all, it's a matter of preference.

The way I see it, it's a choice, simple as that. If the shooter is ok with the settings in their camera and the resulting images, then go ahead and shoot JPG. They can still make adjustments to the image, just not to the extent they could if the images were shot in RAW.
Some folks take the time to fine tune the settings in their cameras and some don't. Some folks don't mind the extra amount of time and effort it takes to process the images, when shot in RAW, and some folks do, and still others don't even know the advantages that shooting RAW offers them. It's kind of like arguing who's cameras are better, Canon, Nikon or Sony.
Sometimes I shoot JPG and sometimes I shoot RAW and sometimes I shoot Canon and sometimes I shoot Nikon and sometimes I even shoot Sony, although my Sony cameras are getting a bit old and I don't have any near term plans of buying another Sony.
Bottom line for me is, if folks want to shoot JPG, then do so, same for RAW.

Because their way is "best" and want to convince others to do it that way.

For me, the argument is NEVER which is best, that's ALWAYS a personal choice, and the answer there is it depends.
The argument for me is ALWAYS the bogus reasons people wear the RAW T-shirt.
Things like:
jpg's deteriorates each time you edit;
you MUST shoot RAW if you want to edit;
you must shoot RAW if you want to adjust white balance.
you must shoot RAW if you are serious about your photography
and on and on and on.
Normally, you see the RAW people puffing out their chests proclaiming everyone must shoot RAW, followed by bogus reason why and often jpgs pictures proclaiming raw is best. You never see the shirt on the right...

JPEGS only deteriorate if one does subsequent edits on the already edited file. If one starts with the original JPEG each time there is no degradation.

One must use their way as it is the "best"..........
...If you are not doing it a certain way, you are not using the "best method".
(But should use the "process" that best fits their own needs and desires.)

That's not correct, but lots of qualification is in order.

It depends in degree on the kind of editing applied to the JPEG. Open a camera original JPEG and make edits of substance to the tone/color of the image and those edits right then and there, before saving the file, will degrade the image.

Most folks understand that a JPEG is degraded when it is re-saved and re-compressed, but then think that is the only way that a JPEG is degraded when editing. It's correct that re-saving and re-compressing a JPEG will degrade it but simply changing color/tone in a JPEG will also degrade it.

More qualification: This has been a bigger issue in the past when our cameras were lower resolution and degradation in JPEGs was more visible. With today's higher-res cameras the damage that editing causes to a JPEG is usually swamped in the higher-res and doesn't show, especially given common image usage -- won't show on your phone.

Only if one saves the edits over the original (replaces the original with the edited file).
I never replace the original, I use "Save As" (new file) for all my edits.
My original always remains untouched.

Your key operator: resaved.
