GAS is not only a photography "thing". I have been to the fishing department at the local Bass Pro lots of times...because I am employed there, and if you want to see GAS, visit soon. GOOD GRIEF!!!

I went through that when I was young. It drove my father crazy. NOTHING I bought made me catch any more fish.

When I was young and just starting to fish, I read a book (author unknown) that was a simple paperback beginners guide to fishing. The author had a sense of humor that was more on point than I realized. In the forward he wrote
"Find a good fishing shop, buy 1 of everything in the store because you are going to own it anyway and this way you can get a quantity discount." Boy was he right! And then some.

Exactly my point, what I see, customers grasping new tackle and new lures and the expression on most all theirs faces seems to be...."Now I can catch more fish and that big one that keeps on getting away"....just what my employer hopes for.

I can relate to GAS for fishing lures. I have to admit those lures are great at catching me and my money. And yes every now and then they do catch a fish.

I guess I don't have GAS. I still have the DSLR and kit lens that I originally purchased about 15 years ago. I have purchased two lenses since, a 50mm and a 100-400MM so all totaled I have three lenses. I don't plan on purchasing anything else.

As for fishing as a kid in Orlando Fla I would go fishing after school, all I had was a light weight rod with a zebco reel and maybe three lures. Sometime I would fish by myself or sometimes with a classmate who had a much better rod and reel combo than I did and a tackle box full of all kinds of fancy lures and plastic worms. I was catching fish off my three lures while he was still getting set up. He would get frustrated and go home and I would continue to fish or talk to some of the older gentlemen that were fishing from the bank like I was doing. Fishing is a battle of wits between you and the fish and it is a relaxing past time.

Where I am employed, you can eliminate 80% of the lures/baits in stock and still catch as many fish. Why so many colors??? Not kidding, I watch people pondering/debating just which colors to purchase.

On another note, I had an enlightenment moment a few months back, after reading several research reports on the proliferation of plastics world wide, and this includes plastics being found in snowfall in the Antarctic in the past couple of years and micro plastics in the exoskeletons of insects in the heart of the Amazon, is there anywhere left that is not being polluted by plastics? That being said, what happens to something like the sport fishing industry "IF" at some point environmentalists challenge the industry to reduce the amount of plastic it uses/consumes??? Simple example, the amount of soft plastic baits seems to be limitless??? Of note too, big oil makes HUGE profits selling the raw materials to manufacture all kinds of plastics and it is believed big oil makes bigger profits selling plastic components than selling vehicle and aviation fuels!
