Is there a genre for these?

I find myself being drawn to images where the appeal is more in the colors, textures, shapes, patterns than the actual subject itself. I would like to pursue this style more seriously. Posting some examples of what I am talking about. I know they are not great but I think they show the direction I am trying to head. I really like some of the examples in 'Seeing Fresh - Contemplative Photography' but find the book a bit too cerebral for me.

Is there a general name or genre (other than rubbish) for these or any good books to further my pursuit ? Still life? Abstract? Contemplative? Looking for suggestions on where to look.

I like these very much.
Don't know how to put it into words, but visual impact and a level of abstraction come to mind.

Except for the b&w ones and maybe the computers, I probably would have taken these as well. Nice eye for color and composition. No rubbish there!

Not "rubbish" at all! I like them. And I think you already named it: "Patterns'

I have seen all this and more under the broad category abstract. Nice work

I like 'em all. As interesting as they all are, my eye is drawn to the little white speck on the forward triangle in the second photo. Abstract? Whatever it's called, you're good at it.

I'm curious about a "genre" also, though I don't think these will all fit in the same category. #2 is a graphical type result, though I still can't wrap my head exactly around the definition - even though UHH user Cany143 has attempted to help me

Like the other respondents so far, I enjoyed all of these very much - just as I've enjoyed your photos in the past. Good to see you, Phil! (I took a third break from UHH not long ago)

btw, did you know there's a new black and white section?

Will be following this thread with great interest, thanks!

It's a fine set no matter the genre/genres.

Thanks for the welcome back Linda. Unfortunately, Covid and the Omicron surge put a damper on my first love which is travel photography. We were forced to cancel trips to Ireland, London and the Greek Islands (twice) Hopefully we will make it to Ireland next month. I have just recently retired and moved to Cape Cod so I should have more opportunities to get out and start shooting again.

I really like the eye and compositions. IMHO not truly abstract (which I am drawn to), but similar in approach.
Maybe artistic impression-ism? A few of these would fall in the style - category - of photographer Bruce Peterson.
Very interesting architectural/ design/ lighting combinations. Keep up with this. A welcomed change Repleo.
Just goes to show that there are images all around us; it just takes an eye that sees as opposed to one that simply looks.

Repleo as a subsequent thought you might enjoy the book "Zen in the Art of Photography" by Robert Leverant. I believe you (as well as others here on UHH) will enjoy and relate to.

As far as style goes, I’d say abstract and as far as your pursuit, it appears that you’ve already overtaken your quarry!
