Nikon ViewNX2 question

Me being old school and stuff, I still use Nikon NX2 for transferring from card to computer. I like to analyze my images there, then do the processing in LR. So...normally you can open an image in NX2 and delete it just by clicking the delete button. HOWEVER, I mistakenly told NX2 NOT to delete anything no matter what. Now I can't figure out how to make the delete button active again. Anybody familiar with this 'ol timey program? BTW NX2 works well for minor RAW tweaks and makes quick work for JPEG, which I often find handy.

I have always found the live tech support from Nikon exceptional. The agents really know the software forwards and backwards. 1-800-NIKONUSA.

Are you referring to ViewNX2 or Capture NX2?

Went trough all the menus & seen nothing but. Right click on a photo. = drop down menu until you see protection. Hope this helps. See attached screenshot.

Good luck. Plus, just use LR if you still have problems.

We're unsure of the software you're using. I have a "NX Studio", but I'm unsure that is the same software. It has an option Edit / Options / General where I have a button for <Restore Defaults>. That might be an option for you too?

My software also can save image edits to a sidecar XMP. You might need to use a color or star code rather than <delete> and then just filter for that code in LR to process the delete later? Maybe a change to your workflow approach has finally arrived? Or maybe, you just need to download the new(er) and still free software from Nikon?

I use another free nikon program to transfer pics from camera to computer. It's called Nikon transfer 2 and works great.

Nikon software is confusing! You might need a given version depending on what camera you use.

Here are a few softwares by Nikon:

Transfer NX is a nef transfer program it is called by the programs below and it can be used stand alone.

Capture NX
Capture NX 2
“Capture” is editing software. NX and NX2 were Written by Nik, with Nick’s control points technology. Discontinued when Google bought Nix

Capture NX-D
Written by silkipix to replace the discontinued Nix Capture software. Does not have control point technology.

ViewNX ?
View NX-i ?
View NX 2 ?
“View” is a viewer software. It reads NEFs and provides a file browser function. In the days of CDs it came with the camera. View” would “call” capture for editing.

NX Studio
The latest release of editing and cataloging software. It combines View and Capture into one program.

I flushed all of them except “Studio”.

Please make sure you are using the correct Nikon program for deleting your images. See earlier post with these details.

Once you identify the specific program, like View NX2 or Capture NX2, reinstall it assuming you still have the full program in your downloads folder on a windows computer. If you do not have it, you may be able to still download it at NikonUSA software downloads.

Nikon NX Studio is the current program that includes Nikon Transfer, View and "Capture" (RAW processor). If you have downloaded it and installed it, you then cannot download and install View NX2.

Capture NX2 may still work although Nikon stopped support of it years ago. I still use it from time to time. The last NEF files it can process are from the Nikon D800e. More recent cameras need Capture NX-D or NX Studio.
