Hi Everyone .
I recently got a used Olympus OMD-EM-1 Mk1
with a used 14-150 lens ..
Just about getting to know about settings etc and taken some good street shots and portraits.
( though i do find them a bit colorful )
I like to shoot protest / demonstrations/ etc , where the action can be fast moving with lots of changing light etc .
There is one in a cple days time .
Question is : Is my OMD Man enough for this job ? as Ive heard that autofocus can be tricky at times .
On the other hand . I have a D300s with 18 -105 which I have used for many of these events
and provided excellent results ..
Cant take both ..
Olympus or Nikon for this one ?

Only you can determine if your OMD is MAN enough for the job. Every brand is as different as the photographer that uses it.
I once saw a professional golfer before the first practice round address the gallery in this manner, "who had a old set of clubs in their trunk that I could borrow today", sure enough a person came forward with a set of 10 year old clubs. The professional golfer then used those clubs on a practice round and shot one over the best score for the day, in other words, he finished second that day out of a group of 50 golfers using a 10 year old set of clubs that someone loaned him.
My point is, many folks come here and ask questions like yours all the time.
My answer is this, if you have the skills and experience you will do well with most of the digital camera's that are on the market today.
So, are you MAN ENOUGH? I don't really know, ARE YOU?

Give it a try and see. It is an older camera with a consumer lens that is not very fast. From prior posts, the menu system and many customizable features can be confounding. As far as vivid or colorful, you must be shooting in jpeg and perhaps have the setting on vivid? And why the change when you had a camera that worked well? Size / weight?

Its a bit old today. IOW yes it does have noticeable, but not seriously crippling, limits. The lens isnt known for zero delay AF, but neither is it slow. Sometimes its best to prefocus (MF).
There are many budget busting solutions, but I infer that those are off the table (?).
Seems to me that you have two cameras from the era in which the SLR was still the better choice.

Olympus, lighter weight so if it turns into Portland or Seattle or similar and you need to run from where you shouldn't be it won't weight you down and slow you down as much.

Any modern camera can do the job...some far better than others though.
You won't have nearly as many keepers...you'll have to work a lot harder.
But...it can be done.
People buy mostly for two things...capability and convenience...and best to get them together.

Take the cheapest point and shoot that you own. That way if you are attacked by the crowd for taking their photos, you won't lose much.

Geewiz, We'd need to wear full body armor to take pictures of protests that we have around here including wearing a helmet to protect the skull from the impact of bricks being thrown.😜

If you had success with the Nikon, take that camera. Sounds like although you like the OMD, you're still getting used to playing with the settings.

If the images are 'mission critical' for income or assignment, etc., then take the Nikon.
Then find other events where you can use the OLy MKI to get more confidence in its use.

Make sure you won't break the bank if you get mugged at a demonstration. Some I've seen get nasty and turn quickly.
