I got an email about how to retire comfortably.
"If you have $500,000, send for this brochure..."
If I had half a million dollars, I wouldn't need a brochure to retire comfortably.

If you had $500,000 cash (invested) plus a respectable return on this investment plus a monthly Social Security check plus periodic withdrawals from a 401(k) plan, then, yes, you could retire comfortably, providing you lived in a low-rent dwelling (perhaps in Mexico). Etc.

I'm living comfortably now on my retirement allowance and Social Security. I can pay for heat and electric, pay my taxes, and put food on the table. "Comfortably" doesn't mean buying another mansion, a larger yacht, or a faster jet.

Of course. It means having more than just the provision of basics like shelter, food, drink, energy, and so forth. One may wish to subscribe to the Internet as a step up from the basic.

And it depends if one wants (needs?) a $750 camera or a $3,000 camera and a $600 computer or a $2,500 computer.

My needs go along with what I can afford. I'm not about to buy a Z9. I have no need for one, and I wouldn't be able to justify the price. I can justify the price of used and refurbished gear, though. I got a Z fc, two lenses, and a lens adapter for a fraction of what a Z9 would cost. My Honda Fit is perfect for me.
