The word in financial sector (July 13, 2022) is that Canon and Nikon will stop producing DSLRs soon.

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/new-updates/nikon-set-to-exit-slr-camera-business-as-it-shifts-focus-to-mirrorless-cameras/articleshow/92845404.cms

NOTE: The article says SLRs but they mean digital SLRs, (DSLR). Neither Canon or Nikon have film cameras in their current product offerings.

At this point, is it news, or are they trying to stoke one more sales rush before the inevitable?

Sales. And also to boost the financial sector’s confidence in Nikon.

I think that is the way things are heading. Nikon has already discontinued a number of DSLRs, and even though they still are producing some, they have stated they will not be developing any new DSLRs. I wonder if they will also stop making Bridge and P&S cameras.

Does anyone find it Ironic that the F6 was the last SLR and D6 the last D-SLR camera developed by Nikon?

No that is why the first Nikon Z camera you could buy was the Z7 (Z6 and Z7 were announced at the same time but the Z7 was available first).
