Nice picture, Bob. There are so many places for good photography around the Phoenix area. When I first moved there, I was living in Gilbert, and was the JV Coach for Girls' Basketball at Fountain Hills High School. At times when driving to Fountain Hills in the afternoon, the view of the sun on the mountain was so compelling that I would have to pull over to the side of the road and take pictures.
Re Superstition Mountain, a few years ago, while I still was living in Glendale, a small plane, coming up from Tucson, I think, crashed into the side of the mountain, with predictable results. You probably remember that.
I didn't get around for photography as much as I should have, but did go up 88 past the Lost Dutchman Museum - pictures of the chapel - and on up to Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat. In the other direction, of course up to Sedona and Flagstaff (in winter, to ski).
We should see more pictures of this area from you!

Beautiful image Bob - well done!
Loren, thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Yes, I do remember the accident. The flight originated in Safford, went to Mesa to pick up family members, then left to return to Safford. The mountain ended the return trip.
Your suggestion is well taken and plans are already in the making for Sedona, etc. I just wanted to give the equipment a serious tryout. So, something relatively close was in order. The clouds and clearer air were the motivation.

A lovely change from your excellent B&W work, Bob! You have a wonderful depth in this shot.
Mike, this is 36 images stitched together. Thanks for stopping by and the kind comment.
It's just another system I'm in the process of learning and debugging.

Hi, Rongn....., it appeared under when I posted it. I used both Gigapan software and mine. I posted the Gigapan results, as I wanted to interface with their Google posting application. As usual, I'll be tweaking things along the way. This was a first-time, serious shot at doing a Gigapan photo.
Thanks for the thumbs.

You purchased a gigapan gizmo, the software or the whole enchilada?
Yup. A while ago someone was selling one for less than 1/2 the cost of a new one. I also downloaded the software needed to use their connection to Google Earth. I also purchased a D800e to use specifically with the Gigapan head. I hadn't used it much over the last year due to some health issues. But, now, weather depending, I'll be using it more.
