A Boat Tail Oriole....Or "Where is my Tail?"

I thought something was a bit off with the male Bullocks Oriole that showed up the other day at my feeders....I finally got an unobstructed view. Maybe this is just normal molting or something? Or did some close encounter with a predator almost get a hold of this beautiful Oriole? I'm just curious if this is part of a normal process or whatever...thanks Walt

Cornell University has a bird id app that tells you the birds I'd by it's song. It's neat as heck. And it works. Yes they can lose those feathers due to molting or predators. Cornell has a lot of info on birds. They try to sell you courses ect but you don't have to partake

Yes I have the Apps already I know the ID ...I am merely asking about the total loss of only his tail feathers & what may have caused that. I have never seen a totally naked tail without a few feathers before.

Well... one Mourning Dove that I snatched out of the air & all his tail feathers came out in my hand. I snuck up behind him on my motorcycle as he was flying along ahead of me. Thanks for commenting. Walt

Thanks joecichjr!! This is the first year I have these Orioles returning daily to my feeders! Been trying for 3-4 years...they take your breath away they are so beautiful! This is not a pic I would choose to show them off with, I have better & will post soon. This was very early AM & too dark for good quality so I had to play with it. Walt

I don't know about Orioles, but I have seen many Grackles completely lose their tail during molt. Other birds probably do so as well.
