Color mixer vs Selective color layer... PS CC centric

I strongly urge you to compare both, as there are significant differences that will help you when you want to change or adjust the colors or even make a B&W image.

I have been pondering on how to make a tutorial on how to use the selective color and compare it to the color mixer channel. I did not find it an easy task, so I decided to let you experiment on a PSD file I created for that purpose.

You can download it to do your own tests and compare.

Basically, Color mixer will influence the whole image when Selective color will modify ONLY the one you select, including YMCK. As such, Selective color is a more powerful tool because of its color targeting.

If you use the magic wand or a Chanel to create a mask while using the color mixer, the control is still too generic.

I have added a B&W layer so that you can experiment with that too. Using a selective color layer below the B&W layer offers more luminosity control simply because of the added four adjustment sliders.

See by yourself.

Gee whiz, Ron, I've been using PS since I bought a new D70, and I didn't know about these tools. Many, many thanks.
