Medical Costs

It's interesting how medical costs work out. I'm getting another colonoscopy next week. It cost $15 to have a consultation with the doctor, and I think that will cover the procedure, too. When I went to CVS to buy the supplies, I wound up paying about $60. Funny how that works.

My son went to the ER with an asthma attack a few months ago. The bill came to $4,753. They listened to him breathe and gave him two injections. I cut my thumb a couple of years ago, and a nurse washed it, bandaged it, and gave me two injections - $3,800. I'm glad I have good insurance.

Your, Part A is horrible. Your copay for the doctor (Part B) is reasonable, but the doctor probably charges insurance $100 for 15 minutes.

If your supplies fell under drugs, it's possible you hadnt met your deductible yet.

I'm thankful for the VA hospital. I never receive a bill for anything.

If a doctor is a participator ( he/she accepts the insurance as payment in full ) then there is no balance billing to the patient- the patient gets no bill. The physician can bill 100,000$ and if he is a participator he accepts what the insurance company pays as payment in full. When we ( me and my partners ) agreed to accept the insurance we asked the insurance company what they would pay for our top 10 most common procedures they told us to sign up and THEN the would tell us how much they would pay. When i asked if the agent would buy a car like this he said that that wasn’t the same thing. Well….

Now that I have Medicare, I see what it pays to doctors and it's terrible. An orthopedist I used to see is heavily into sports medicine but also shoulders and knees, but he opted out of Medicare. Bottom line, after 65 I couldn't see him. I couldn't even pay him cash to see him. Too bad, because he was excellent.

I'm afraid I'll be canceling that appointment. My son tested positive for Covid last night, and he lives with me. I doubt the doctor will want me coming anywhere near him.

Looking back, I always paid the $15 co-pay.
