Went to the egret tree, and I found that one had died. Sad
But the babies are still growing. Life and death is a natural process, I guess.

Is that just one bird or two?

One dead hanging from the tree. A mother and babies in the nest.
I know that it isn't a nice picture to look at, maybe one of the hardest to look at that I have ever taken.

The result of a fight, a fall, poison, old age? Guess there's no way to know if you weren't there. As you said... sad.

In previous years I have seen maybe one or two die in the tree. I don't know what would kill them in the tree, but it is sad to see that happen.
But life goes on.

How could you not care about the sadness? I don't know if it was old age, something that he ate, or what. It is just a sad reminder of the story of life.

My first thought was this if there is no sign of injury?

I hope that is not the cause, that would be terrible for a lot of birds around here.
I hope that it was something that was painless, whatever it was.
Maybe some injury?

Bird flu has hit central Florida. We have had eight bald eagles die from it in Brevard County in the past few months. Scavengers like vultures are being hit hard, but birds that hang together in large flocks are being hit - it might be a hard time for birds in rookeries. Dead birds should be reported to the Florida Wildlife Commission so (if possible) they can determine whether or not it was bird flu.

Good photo, even if sad. At least we know he/she left survivors behind to continue on into the future.
