I want to share scanned film JPEG photo files with family members. I am an Amazon Prime member and keep getting emails encouraging me to use their on-line photo storage service (they even offer a $15 credit!) The Amazon site is a little sketchy on the details. I guess they want you to sign up before they tell you how it works. I used the UHH Search function but couldn't find anything recent on this topic.
So, anybody have experience using the Amazon photo service? On their site they imply automatic uploading of your images; does this mean they suck up all the photos on your computer or can you select specific folders? Will uploaded photos retain their file/folder organization or does Amazon change that? Would Dropbox be better? (I know nothing about Dropbox!)
Helpful comments would be very much appreciated!
I have an older computer with what was a powerful set of hardware in its time. I have Amazon Photo and find that there are times that it bogs down the computer processor when I try to do something resource heavy. I also have Carbonite which doesn't.
Thanks for the link. I had not seen that. Seems a bit complicated. I was hoping for a simple upload of folders to online storage that keeps the file structure intact and allows authorized viewers to see the files organized essentially the same way I see them on my computer (kinda like what they would get if I sent them a CD or flash drive).

Are you using Amazon Photo as backup storage and it continuously looks for changes that require updating of your backed up files? In other words, is it running continuously in the background? (I'm trying to understand your issue when doing "something resource heavy".)

Yes, it runs continuously in the background for backup. If I do something like post processing a photo, the computer can bog down. When I check, Amazon Photo is the biggest processor user other than the photo editor.
I’ve been Prime for 15 years. I have used their Photo program for the same length of time. They are my back up back up. Easy to use, easy to share with anyone. After you upload your photos, create an album, and share with anyone. Only real downside for me, you cannot rearrange photos in your album. All sorted by date.

I just started using Drop Box, works great and it’s free. It puts a Drop Box folder in your file manager (I use Windows). I put the photos I want to use into a folder, copy that to the Drop Box folder, right click on that folder, select "copy link", then paste that link into an email for the person I want to send the photos to. Been sending several hundred JPEGS at a time to my kids with their childhood pics. They can either just view them or download them. Works great.
I use google photos and when sharing I create a link especially when texting to be sure the recipient receives them at full resolution.
I use Dropbox and have had good success sharing. Depending on how much you want to share or store will determine the size of Dropbox you need. I have done some large multi participant projects without issue.
Thank you all. Dropbox seems to be more in line with what I'm looking for. I'll give it a try.
