Another Write-Protected MicroSD Card

This is the second time this has happened with SanDisk MicroSD cards. I try to copy something to them, and they say they are write-protected. I copied files to one Micro card, and then I tried with another, but the second one wouldn't work. There is no switch on the card, and the SD carrier isn't protected. I even tried different SD carriers with the same result. I followed suggestions on a couple of sites, and nothing worked - not DiskPart and not chkdsk.

There are 127 PDF files on the disk, but Adobe can't open them. I can't format it, either, because it's protected. The disk doesn't show up as something that can be ejected, but it does show up as a drive. Odd.
If I can find the other bad card, I'll send them both to SanDisk.

"Write Protect" has nothing to do with reading data. Files are readable on a write protected "disk".
The device just cannot be "written to".
Can the OS see the file & contents? If not, sounds like either the files or FAT table are buggered on the device.

If the FILES are write protected, which is different than the CARD being write protected, I can change that FILE attribute in Windows Explorer (uncheck).
FILES that are write protected cannot be erased. Usually the FILE protection travels with a copy of the file to a new location.

Since the card isn't physically write-protected, that's not the actual problem, but the computer can't write to it. The fact that the files are listed, but Adobe can't read them indicates another problem. It's a 32GB card with about 4GB on it. I don't like the fact that this is the second SanDisk to have the same problem. I ordered three PYN 32GB MicroSD cards.

The files themselves aren't protected. Fortunately, I have lots of backups.

Interesting. I've never had that problem occur.

Just wait!

The GPS, GoPro, and Kindles use those tiny cards. I don't like them at all.

Our tablet and my old phone use them. Once installed I forget about them, they work.
Yea, they're a bear to manipulate.....

I have to remove them from the Kindle to add files - actually, I probably don't have to remove them - so I deal with those tiny things fairly often.

I'll have to try this.

I have had that happen before on a USB memory stick. The device had gone back.

I was unwilling to send the USB stick to them for a warranty return (because it has my personal information on it, which I couldn't delete), but the vendor agreed to give me a refund based on a picture of the destroyed device.

I thought that was good customer service. I wish I could mention the vendor here, to give them Kudos, but after a quick search, I can't find a record of it.

Had a similar situation recently. Tried another card reader, and it was fine.

BTW, (it probably wouldn't have helped Jerry this time, but) as I have said before: anytime you get a new USB or SD storage device, test it with h2testw:

https://www.heise.de/download/product/h2testw-50539
(It it written in German, but there is a button to switch it to English)

or similar. No (slow, low cost) flash vendor has the time to fully test their devices, and I estimate that 2-5% of the flash devices that I have gotten are bad when brand new. Better to find out right way, when you can still return it, or at least, not use it.

Interesting. I've seen guys on YouTube who buy storage from Wish just to see how bad it is. A 16TB flash drive costing $10 didn't actually have 16TB of storage room.
