While I agree that landscape photography may be done with a wide variety of lenses, not all lenses are suited to photographing landscapes. There is a difference between photographing landscapes, aka landscape photography, and using a landscape format. Just because it's a landscape format doesn't mean the image is of a landscape. But then most photographers with even just a wee bit of common sense, knows this.

Right, but if you watch the video he is definitely talking landscape photography and advantages of using longer focal lengths.

I never click on a link I don't know anything about. I'm not interested in his opinions. I know what landscape photography means and I know what photographing landscapes means, and I usually opt for the lens that I have available that will get me the photograph I'm looking for in the format that makes the most sense to me. I'd be willing to wager that the many, many, many photos of landscapes were done with a 50 or 55mm lens, and that's not wide angle at all. In fact I generally don't use wide angle lenses at all for photographing landscapes, you lose too much detail and everything looks so, small.

Yes, if you take a picture of a landscape, it's a landscape lens, no matter what the focal length.
(It's just wide or narrow compared to the WHOLE eyeball visible landscape.)

I agree that a wide angle has better use than photographing a landscape. Using the wide angle the background recedes while objects slightly away from the camera appear smaller than they should.
Yes, many excellent landscapes have been photographed with a 50mm lens. Many more have been photographed with a tele. The "intimate landscape" comes to mind, a selective view and not the whole.

I would say that the definition of Landscape has been slightly polluted in the photography world.

Landscape: An expanse of scenery that can be seen in a single view.

That does suggest a fairly wide angle lens is needed for a true landscape.

Basically...every lens can snap a shot of...land.

But Landscape...is expansive.

A wide angle lens captures a larger view, telephotos capture a narrower view of the landscape.
Pay no never mind to the focal length, just the resultant view.....
Because more shots are probably done with a wide angle, that makes it a "landscape lens"? Give me a break.
A lens is a lens.

Here's a thought: At what focal length would a lens no longer be considered a "landscape" lens?
(This is gonna be good..... )

My 600mm wide angle lens is the one I use when shooting the moon. I can get the entire object in the view.

And by definition, need this "landscape" be done with just one shot?

Sure, one can take/make panoramas with any lens.
Nothing magical about the focal length, only what the camera is able to capture.

Like most any subject type good photos can be made with lenses of any focal length. Wide angle lenses are good for emphasing foreground objects. Panoramas on the other hand made with lenses that are normal to telephoto in focal length.
