I posted this in BIF section but I don't think as many people visit that so this is for the rest of UHH.

There are an awful lot of pics posted here, really very few worthy of comment. You are very good, or very lucky, or both. Truly an outstanding photo of an extremely difficult bird to catch in flight. With good light, completely in focus. Getting that shot would make my year.

Kudos from a jealous bird photographer.

I strive to be good and luck plays a big part in that.
Thank you for that high praise.

Yes they are. I saw this bird pitched high in a pine with what I’m pretty sure was a Dragonfly (I have pics of that also). So I found a spot with a clear shot and waited about 20 minutes for it to take flight and as a previous post suggested “I got lucky”.

Daniel, thank you for posting it here too. Fantastic image. American Kestrels are one of my favorite species of birds. Many years ago one almost flew into my face while it was chasing some other bird.

Wow! Outstanding shot. I couldn't find any info on this one. What lens and what distance were you from this beauty? I have never seen one closer than 200-300', and even then it wouldn't get still.

I’m thinking I was about 30 yards from the base of the tree separated by water. This was taken with my Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f11 IS.
