đź‘Ťđź‘Ť Right questions.

Sure as chicken, there will be some number of suggestions without knowing the answers to those questions. It’s kind of like sales. Amateur salespeople spend lots of time talking, telling you about what they want to sell you, whether it fits your needs or not. The pros ask questions to determine the buyer’s needs, do lots of listening (instead of talking), and then propose a solution that best meets those needs (even if it’s not what they have to sell).

First is it a desktop or laptop?
If a laptop have a good tech check it.
If a desktop then why do you think it is about to die? I have used computers older than that without problems.
You say you back it up but do you run anti-malware, anti-virus and "cleanup" apps to clear out all the old crud that accumulates on the drives. Have you ever defragmented the drives (not SSD-do not defrag them) having apps and data scattered all over the drive can slow a machine way down. I do all those things at least twice a month and usually weekly.
If you have newer apps they could demand more than the originals did, do you have empty slots for more RAM to give it a boost?
Has the inside of the case been cleaned to get out dust etc. that can coat the parts and increase heat/temp which will affect the performance.

Our desktop and my laptop are about ten years old. Meet our needs.
I did have to replace a hard drive in the desktop due to an "impending drive failure".

It’s a desktop, extremely slow, and making a grinding noise.
I have done all those things and I do have open slots.

If the noise is constant and does not change pitch (like when you start a program), I'd suspect a fan is going.
(Our desktop is pushing ten years.)

Replacing a fan would be so much cheaper than a new unit!

Are you willing to assemble it yourself, or do you want it turnkey?

If turnkey, let me suggest as a start: https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/desktops-all-in-one-pcs/xps-desktop/spd/xps-8940-desktop/cto8940w10prkl5?configurationid=c99d32f7-f37f-477c-a3ed-419bda3b2b9e

Intel 3.5/5 GHZ I-9
64 GB
2GB m.2 MVME SSD
2GB SATA
NVidia GTX 1660 w/6GB DDR6
Optical Drive
Wireless keyboard and mouse

$2520 which leaves you $500 for monitor(s). You can modify this configuration with more DRAM or VRAM or assemble a custom machine for a bit less if you feel comfortable assembling the pieces (1 hour) and installing the OS. I’ve picked an Intel CPU, but AMD has some very “hot” CPUs in the Ryzen and Threadripper family at good pricing which is a viable alternative.

Without monitor, and yes. I’m willing to try to install it myself.
