I have failed to find a conclusive answer to this question on line. Have D800 and love it, but it has over 200000 already and I will likely soon get D850 also. I do have battery pack (Mieke) on the D800 and like it so much. So my question is; would the same D800 battery pack (Nikon's or off brand like Mieke) also fit the D850?
Your thoughts on the query are appreciated!

The bottom outline of the cameras are different. Nikon produced the MB-D18 for the D850.
The MB-D12 works for the D800 and D810 family.

Other pairs were the D600/D610, and the D7200/D7100.

Interestingly, The D300 and the D700 could also use the same grip.

The short answer is "NO". If you want the detailed long winded answer private message me.

Or alternatively, I found a D800E on Ebay for $730 with 27,500 clicks from Utah. You maintain the same image quality you obviously know but that is enhanced because the E model does not have the AA filter over the sensor. You also can keep your Mieke grip without the added expense of a different grip for the D850.

That being said, the allure of the D850 is hard to ignore. I know. I fell in love with it myself and took the plunge replacing my D800 when my dealer became restocked in 2018. I paid full-boat retail. The fiscal cost for the grip, extra batteries and XQD cards, especially was an eye-opener but worth it in my opinion at the time. I equipped it with three sets of XQD and SD cards. More than I spent on the grip in the final analysis.

My only caveats; don't put it on your Discover card and not aggressively pay it down plus you may find that your current computer set-up may bog-down with these larger file sizes and doing work in Photoshop like merging multiple images to create stitched panos. I had to make upgrades when I went from my D600 to a D800 and the same thing happened when I got the D850. Those considerations go hand-in-hand.

No, you need to purchase a different model. I've seen them used at some camera store sellers like MBP, KEH y Roberts in the past. When they purchase a used camera with vertical grip, L brackets, etc., they separate them & sell off. Last time I looked, the V-Grip for the D850 was cheaper than the D810 from Nikon.

What is Nikon's warranty policy about using 3rd party batteries? Are you planning to buy a brand new D850? It likely comes with it's own OEM battery and charger. Or is Nikon gone totally cheapo with high prices.

When I sold my D800, the original OEM grip and batteries went with it. With the D850, I bought additional OEM batteries. The camera is too finely-tuned a device to risk with cheaper knock-offs. $40 extra is cheap insurance as the 3rd party battery can affect the camera in ways you can't predict. As well as 3rd-party accessories. You should ask yourself, what risks do you run if they can sell one at 1/3rd the price of the original? A roll of the dice.

Not compatible. While the electrical contacts on the D800/D810 are identical, the D850 is totally different.

Ditching the AA filter does a lot more for perceived sharpness than piling on more pixels. Also, it doesn’t grow your file size or slow down the camera. Cost-wise, it’s your best choice in image improvement.

If you look at pictures, you will see that the electric contacts run in different directions! Not even close.
