Received a call from a dear cousin, seems he came a crossed a 35mm camera his deceased brother bought while in the Army in Germany in the early 1950's. He asked me if I could find its value and possibly know any camera collectors who might be interested in such a camera. For its age (over 70+ years) it seems to be in very good condition. I took about a dozen photos for illustration. This camera seems to work OK and appears perfect except for some scratches on the leather lens covering. There are no crackes or wear on the bellows. Even the old battery in the flash did not leak or corrode. No one remembers this camera being used very much. The leather case is neither rotted or dried out. I hope someone can help. Please PM me if anyone has interest or any information about the camera. Thanks for any in-put you might have.

Dave, here's one place to check for value. https://collectiblend.com/Cameras/Kodak-Eastman/Retina-II-(011).html
You'll need to copy the entire link and paste it into a browser.

I have one of those and use it. It's a great camera. If memory serves, I paid about $250 for mine. I purchased it from a local camera store.

It looks as if the URL is wrong.

I have (and use) the previous version, the Retina 1a. looks like the Retina II has the f/2.0 lens. Great little full frame pocket camera. Load it with Kodak Tmax 100 for great black and white photos.

A fore-runner of the Retina Reflex (SLR) first SLR I ever saw when in Cyprus 1958/9.A fellow RAF guy had a 90mm lens as well as the 50mm standard lens. Nice piece of 'Kit'.

A Retina II was my first "real" camera. Mine had the Kodak 47mm f/2 Ektar lens. My father bought it used from a local camera store when I went to summer camp for the first time in 1956. It took some glorious photos on the Kodachrome of the day - when I guessed the exposure correctly.

I have a Retina IIc and a Retina IIIC (Large C) with a Schneidero Kruznach 35mm lens // Two 50mm lenses// 80mm lens. Both cameras are working fine with no problems.

The problem your cousin will have is getting the camera in front of the collectors who would be interested in a camera like the Retina without setting up an account on eBay, Etsy or similar web venue. I’ve seen collectible cameras on Craigs List languish for weeks

I have a Retina IIIc, purchased in 1960 and took many 35mm slides with it. It's in good shape with an extra lens and case if anyone is interested. It just sits in my photo equipment box.

Other problems are: Posted rates have go up and at this time a lot of people don't the money to spend on a use camera. I had a camera on Craigs List on for two months with no sale, so I pull it off Craigs List.
