If I like this photo. I was doing a series of tombstones, to be posted later today or tomorrow, and saw this bird on a tombstone. I took the shot but it was dark with no chance for another. After looking at it I decided to make it a black and white as that was pretty much what it was anyway. I sort of like the silhouette aspect of it. What do you think. I used my Sony RX10IV.

I think it works well - good composition, full range of values and nice bokeh. Evocative.

I don't like B/W except for textures, lines and shapes and now tombstones.
Run the whole series in B/W and see what turns up.
I think that's a peaceful shot

Thank you Mike for your opinion. Oddly, the word, somber, did not come to mind but of course that is the exact word that fits well. I sort of like the photo but wish the bird was looking toward the camera. Of course this way the bird is sort of looking over the cemetery and that would fit the dark mood.

Thank you tramsey for your comment. I love the way you framed it too. I was thinking in the negative right up until, "and now tombstones". Thank you so much. I think it is peaceful as well. I might run some of the actual stones in black and white. We'll see.

If only Edgar Allen Poe was around to give me some pointers.

Well my friend, that is somewhat how I feel too. It must have something as everyone who has commented has been positive. Even my family who doesn't hesitate to tell me, That one sucks. But they seem to like this one. Works for me. I appreciate your comment.

Is this a crop? If you can include more, try it with more to indicate that it's a tombstone.

I have to go along with R.G. If you didn’t note it was a tombstone I am not sure people would get the feel the bird was in a cemetery. Perhaps Looking at the other stones.
To me the bird has the feel of stone and is part of the structure it is sitting on.

That was my first impression - that it was a shame the bird wasn't looking towards the camera... Not a bad shot, though.

This is the original. As you can see I have only cropped from the right to get rid of the brightness and lightened up the stone and bird, opening the shadows.

Perhaps I should have been clearer in my narrative. This is a bird and it is on a tombstone. I was taking photos of tombstones at the time. But this bird was not necessarily meant to be part of my tombstone series. I was there and the bird landed on the top of a tombstone. I had intended the bird to be bright and not dark. But when I saw this photo in my photos library after downloading the card I started to like it. The bird is only on a tombstone because that was convenient for him to land on.

I very much appreciate your comment.

Please read my comment to R.G. and I think you will see where I was coming from. The bird has nothing to do with the tombstone series. The tombstone is only a convenient place for the bird to land. Sorry about the confusion.
