Looking for software

Much like the facial recognition software, I'm looking for software that will look at files in a folder and find all the similar looking pictures. Of course they will have different file names. Is there such software and hopefully freeware?

What is your primary photo editing software and cataloging system?

I mainly use lightroom. These JPG files are not presently cataloged in Lightroom. They could be if Lightroom can perform this task.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6.14 . My thoughts are that the search needs to be visual as most of these images have been scanned/edited and I don't believe that the file name, date and time stamp and metadata (exposure, lens, camera etc) will be reliable enough to find duplicates

Lightroom CC (the cloudy one), uses computer smarts to filter. If I put "truck" in the search box, all the RV and van images show up. If I put in "girls", all the images of my granddaughters, daughter-in-law and dear wife show up.

So, Lens Cap, load your JPEGs into the cloudy Lightroom and do your search.

Don't understand - "if Lightroom can perform this task."

The task of "look at files in a folder and find all the similar looking pictures". Unfortunately I communicated this poorly. I need to have software that will compare each image file to all the other files to see how many duplicates there are. I dont need to search for "car" or Truck and have it locate them. It will need to compare the image on file 1 to all the other 10,000 images and list the other files that contain the same image. I think this might be clearer, then again maybe not.

If you are shooting so many duplicates or near duplicates, something is wrong. What could be corrected to give you just one shot that is the right one? I think it starts with the photographer before it gets to the model and whatever you have her doing. Saying "move your hand here" or "clasp your fingers", etc. is valid. Choosing the best one is the task of the photographer taking this series to select the best photo.

Otherwise, you might as well "cheat" and actually shoot video, selecting the one image that you instinctively know is best. (Back to the responsibility of the photographer taking the pictures.)

Paul Diamond, I hope you don't get all of your exercise from jumping to conclusions. This has nothing to do with me shooting too many duplicates. It is about sorting through files from my phone, pictures people have sent me, folders I have put copies into to sent to people/print/and other various projects. Yes I was too lazy to deal with them at the time and now after probably 10 years of collecting I want to sort them out. And yes I probably could just dispose of them all, but that's just not me. Thanks for your effort

I was in EUrope and missed this thread.

There is a program that will compare every bitmap image (JPG, PNG, TIFF and others). It will sort them by similarities and will display each side by side in order to allow you to visually compare and decide what to do.

Awesome duplicate finder This program is free but had not been updated for a long time. Yet it works extremely well and works across directories, even drives.
Dupe finder software review for 2021 Note: Awesome duplicate finder is still listed as one of the best.

Rongnongno, Thank you, yes I found some freeware (VisiPis) and it seems to be doing a great job for what I need. Check it out if you need something like this.
