All Olympus and Panasonic bodies work with all Olympus and Panasonic lenses for all basic functions. This is probably the main reason that the pros using 4/3rds are not worried about the 4/3rds future. And even Canisdirus says Panasonic is "long term". Eventually there will be larger megapixel sensors to use the 100mp sensor capabilities of the pro lenses. For now, the handheld 80mp image capability of the E-M1 mkIII and E-M1X will have to do. And your requirement of handheld photography can be best matched with the 7 stops of body stabilization of the E-M1 mkIII and E-M1X. There are other future lenses that one can look forward to from both Olympus and Panasonic.

Just calling it like it is.

I understand there is a consumer viewpoint...and companies do try to relate to their concerns...
But finances dictate what and how they can respond.
Oly went broke...broke.
JIP bought them...a Corp. that typically sells inventory and changes the direction of the failed company it has purchased (naturally...wouldn't you?)

So...we have wishes...and we have financial realities.

How is JIP/OM-D doing? It isn't pretty...

Olympus published the latest financial report (2nd quarter 2021): There are two news:

In the Imaging Business Olympus lost $500 million more than previously forecast
The Imaging Business is now marked as “discontinued operation”.

Between the first half of FY2020 and the first half of FY2021, capital expenditures (= investments) fell by half and R&D expenditures by 30%.

The ONLY way JIP can turn profitable is to seriously change the business model...which they have already telegraphed publicly.

Look for JIP to start dumping inventory.
There will probably be some good sales out there coming up...

But I could never recommend that system to anyone looking to begin or switch.
Panasonic...yes.
Oly...no.

Respectfully, I disagree. I don’t know what the poster’s financial background is, but I know what I’m talking about here. Olympus was and is a large public company. Their overhead structure was almost certainly very different than the buyer’s (“JIP)overhead structure.

Apologies, but my posting got sent while I was drafting it. Technology; ugh! The buyer and Olympus have very different risk profiles. No one can predict the future of an acquisition, but I can assure you that JIP has a robust business plan. Also, Olympus did not go broke. Anyone can download their SEC form 10K and see that. Olympus’ camera operations were operating at a loss. Overall, they are a profitable company. If they fell short of their projections, that is not a measure of their profitability.

That is the beauty of 4/3rds: there real is no "switch"! Right now there are UHH members that own both Olympus and Panasonic bodies and Olympus and Panasonic lenses and have no complaints. It is not like trying to fit a Nikon lens on a Canon body. My pro teacher taught me early that buy for what meets your needs today because there will always be a better camera available tomorrow - and, of course, right after you spent your money. No problem, save one's money and repeat. It is all good shooting.

Thanks all for the input. I've been on the road and just got in a position to absorb all this. To those of yo that mentioned the Tough, I am looking for a good deal on one (used or reconditioned) as a back-up/pocket camera.

Check https://www.getolympus.com/. I think the cyber Monday will be over in a very few hours. But the last I looked, they still had reconditioned TG-6s left.
