A man owned a gear making company and he found business was thriving, so much so he needed help. So he put a sign in the window, “Gear Maker wanted, must be experienced”. Then he went back to his office. In less than an hour a man walked in carrying the sign. “I’m here to apply for this job.” he said. “What do you know about gear making” asked the owner. “Everything,” answered the guy. “All my life I’ve been fascinated with gears. I read about them, studied them, and worked with them.”
“Well, that sounds great. When can you start?” asked the owner. “Right away.” was the reply. “Fine” said the owner. “Follow me, I’ve got a gear that needs cutting,” and he led the new man back into the shop and to a gear making machine and a gear blank. “I’m on it!’ said the new guy. The owner went back to his office, pleased. A couple of hours later he decided to see how his new guy was doing so he went into the factory. “How’s it going?” he asked. “Great!” said the new guy. “I’m almost done. But I have one question.” “What is it?” asked the owner. “Well, I have just enough room left for one great big tooth or two little teeny teeth. Which do you want?

"Experience"? I have experience flying in planes, but you wouldn't want me in the pilot's seat. : )

Funny - an ad for Avon Gear and Engineering appears at the bottom of this post. Talk about targeted advertising . . .

No, but I've watched them fly. Unfortunately, one of the founders was killed flying one of his old planes.

A fellow I know was flying a Tri foker and was hurt real bad when his Engine Quit on takeoff. Those WWl Pilots had a lot of handicaps. The Engines of those days used Castor Oil. And it would cause the Pilots to have the runs. So they would have to make intermittent stops to relive themselves. That is why you see the real long Exhaust Pipes on some of them.
