I tweaked this with Pixelmator Pro, latest version. Crop and selectively darken highlights, nothing else. This is HEIC so it's not showing here but you can download it. The SW can do the other formats but I decided to see what it would do with a more modern format.

Sony HX50, on "auto". Zoom is mid-length. It's all in the EXIF.

It's an Anhinga at Ding Darling, Sanibel, FL.

.heic files are not normally displayable by most browsers.
.JPG is much more transportable.

It shouldn't have been posted to Main Discussion anyway.

I hadn't noticed.............

It was a post that showed up in my 'following' list.
I never look at the category that posts are in, I just look at the post.

But, it does matter to some people I guess.

It puzzles me why some people feel it’s wrong to post images to a photography discussion site.

In fact under the Main Photography Discussion, forum rules, at the very top, is a link to “How to Post a Picture”.

Based on the rules it is completely appropriate to post images here, and the statement “shouldn't have been posted to Main Discussion” is wrong.

Couldn't view the photo. Try jpg next time if you want people to actually see it.

I downloaded it. It opened in Photos on my Windows 10 machine. Screenshot. Beautiful picture, by the way.

Correct but somehow I did not see where the choice was offered. Oops.

I wonder why a "included" app with Windows did not work for you?

It's almost 2022. I wonder when "people" will be able to "actually see it". Just a thought.

Choice offered by what????

The "choice" is what one decides to upload, not what UHH does with it.
An image in an editor should be saved to a JPEG for the web.
Directly from a phone? Can it save a JPEG version also?
You can't upload an heic and chose it to be a jpeg.

Just in case one might want to be able to see a new and widely supported format I have attached some images from the MS store.

Handy for those who's devices save HEIC images.
None of mine do, so I won't install it, no need to do so.

Works in File Explorer...
Does it work in browsers???
If not I'd have to install this, download the HEIC, save it to the computer, go open it with Explorer (Win 7? 10?).
Not worth my trouble.

Open in Paint. Save as a jpeg. Takes only a few seconds.

You can see in my post that I was responding to the issue about which sub-forum is correct, not the choice of image format. I did mean to put it in the one that's just for pictures. It got by me. The moderators have moved my posts before and could or still may do it again.

My camera - not a phone - shot JPG and my editor offered the choice of many formats to export. I chose HEIC because my primary purpose for the image is on my own system. It was shot on a Sony HX50 camera, not a phone. I made that clear in my initial post. Yes, my editor, Pixelmator Pro in this case, can export JPG, TIFF, etc.

Please see below regarding viewing HEIC. HEIC is a better format and it's not unreasonable to use it. I was not looking for help with the image.

I note in passing that other formats such as spreadsheets have also been uploaded. It's not a requirement that the UHH forum software be able to display it or UHH would not upload it.

From the MS Store: "HEIC Image Viewer is a widely used tool to view, print, convert photos, pictures and images."

Yup, sorry, I missed that.
Was not expecting the Forum Police to come out.
(There's a pull/drop down option to select a forum.)

Re the viewer-
Widely used..... relative.... I don't use it..... yet.....

You can upload basically any file, it simply cannot be displayed if it is not an browser supported image file.
If my browser doesn't support it, I'll move on.
It's not that important that I MUST see it, especially if i have to download and install stuff I don't need.
