Vanderbilt’s 250-room French Renaissance chateau is a true marvel. The finished home contains over four acres of floor space, including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, and 65 fireplaces.

The first two images are conversions from photos that I took in the late afternoon, with the house shaded except for some sunlight on the roof. I hope you enjoy and thanks for looking.

Would have loved to have seen it fully staffed and filled with guests in its hey-day. Nice mysterious shots with the stars over it!

Biltmore is definitely worth a visit, it's hard to believe that anyone ever had that kind of money, especially back then! Ashville is also an interesting town with many other things to see. Personally, I thought the Grove Park Inn was pretty amazing as well. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression and the old section is an engineering marvel using some of the largest stones I've ever seen used in a building. The main lobby has two huge fireplaces that are bigger than the kitchen in my home. It has a history of many a visiting US President and other famous folks as well.

Great photos of a beautiful mansion and long ago memories of untold wealth. I too love the Grove Park Inn having stayed their many times over the years. I loved your night shot.

Biltmore is definitely worth a visit, it's hard to... (show quote)

It is worth a visit. Be prepared to pony up. We were there in October. The price of admission is almost a hundred per person. More if you want to see inside the Biltmore.

We used to service the Ashville Airport in the 1980's and 90's. ATC had no preference if we flew over the mansion or not so we always landed to the south and took off to the north. From 1000 ft. agl the building looks huge. Next May I am joining several other Corvette owners and we will visit and stay at the Biltmore House. The National Corvette Museum runs these trips and they are first-class opportunities to visit places we can't get in without NCM's pull. I am going to be able to shoot from the roof of the structure so vistas might be possible. The EF 14-24mm will get a workout inside the building. A friend has done this trip when it was limited to 40 cars, this year I am #52 and confirmed. He said the place is well worth the effort to get there. The trip will be highlighted when we assemble all the Corvettes at one end of the ellipse and stand for a group photograph. They love us there. Included in the trip is a run thru the "Tail of the Dragon," a wonderful stretch of road for the strong-hearted rider/driver. Only 6 more months to wait.

It's a place and a story that just never ends once you set foot there!
