If the price is the same, more or less, is there any advantage to ordering directly from Nikon as opposed to one of the other sellers such as Adorama, etc.?

None for you, as long as it is the <USA> warranty, but here would be for B&H, KEH, or any other company.
They would get a little profit as opposed to Nikon getting it all.

Perhaps shipping time, but I don't order often enough to make a judgement.

And the retailers have actual sales more often than Nikon.

What you should be asking is if there is any advantage to buying from a local camera store versus giving the "giants" your money. As many times as I've said I wouldn't upgrade my Nikon D810 to the D850, I got the itch when it went on sale and just drove 20 miles to Action Camera in Roseville, CA, bought it, and drove home with it. (I confirmed they had it in stock first.) No waiting. No risk of someone stealing it or having it delivered to the wrong address.

The price was identical to Nikon's sale price.

I have ordered from B&H and Adorama. No complaints, but I do try to keep the local guys in business.

If you order from B&H you can use Payboo and save the tax.

NO issues with the local camera store. Good point on the picking it up personally.

Alas, our local camera store closed last year.

I still have one not to far from me. I'll contact them. They have other Nikon lenses on their website, button the 200-500, which is what I'm interested in. Doesn't mean they can't get it. I want to make sure they'll honor the BF pricing.

The 200-500 is on sale at Nikon USA and authorized retailers for $1099.95. All authorized Nikon USA retailers will always have the same price as the Nikon USA site. See if your local store has one in stock. If not, see if they can order it for the sale price. There is no indication on the Nikon USA site of a date when the sale will end, but since it's a "Black Friday" sale, I would think it will last at least through Friday.

Everyone should read this before using the Payboo credit card.

https://appleinsider.com/deals/bh-payboo-card

The interest rate is 29.99% APR, and you do not get the state tax refund in all states. If you're going to pay off the purchase in a month or two, you'll come out ahead. If not, you'll pay Synchrony Bank that interest on the unpaid balance, and they're obviously counting on people carrying a balance.

When I was in the market for my D810 refurbished I checked Nikon, B&H and Adorama. Nikons price was a couple of hundred dollars higher than B&H and Adorama. B&H and Adorama were like $4 different from each other. When I finally was ready to push the button all 3 were out of stock. Nikon restocked first but I waited and B&H restocked next so B&H won because they were still a couple hundred less.

I was thrilled when the camera arrived, it works perfectly and there were only 176 shutter actuations.

Taxes? Shipping cost / vendor? Shipping duration, such as 2-day vs random ground? Return policy and shipping cost, such a prepaid to vendor? Frequent buyer points? Old equipment trade-in discount?
