I loved Picasa -- but, now it is gone. I have struggled with the Google alternate and it is a P.I.T.A.
Any good choices out there? I love having access on my phone to Google Photos, but am still looking.
i abandoned Picasa long ago. I found I could do so much more with PhotoShop Elements.
Is photoshop elements a freebie or a subscription. Don’t like subscribing to anything

It's not a subscription nor a freebie. You have to pay for it once.
I use Gimp similar to Photo Shop but it's free. Has a learning curve but there are tutorials on this forum and on you tube.
I also use Fast Stone Image viewer. Another freebie but it is very basic but very easy to learn, like pouring water out of a boot with the directions on the heel

Check out smart photo editor! One time cost of around $50

One time purchase. New versions out each year, but no real hurry to purchase latest version, since improvements are incremental rather than break-through. Will do most of what Photoshop does without the hassle and monthly rentals. I went from 11 to 21, and that was quite an improvement. I may not wait another 10 years to upgrade again, but will wait at least another 2. Elements also accepts most of the third party helpers that Photoshop does.
The Photoshop Elements perpetual (as in permanent) license is normally $100. The annual "black friday" sale is on now for $60. If you buy direct from Adobe via download, there is a 30 day happy or return it policy. Retailers sell it too, but the return policy will be different.

I still use it for framing and an occasional tweaking of something.

Never had a use for it. Too limited. So no change here. I use Photoshop/Lightroom/Capture One/DXO Photolab 5 - and Snapseed on camera phone captures.
Just because Picasa is no longer supported doesn't mean you can't continue to use it to do basic edits, etc. You will probably lose most if not all of the connectivity and sharing features, but the basic editing module should still be usable. Frankly, my photo editing computer has not been on the internet for years now, due to multiple infections and upgrade issues, but it does still have Picasa loaded on it. Unfortunately, I found Picasa to be a bit limited for my needs and have pretty much settled in on "Darktable" for most of my needs. This is a free download unless that changed recently, but like most other editors, it does have a bit of a learning curve. I also still use the Canon JPEG editor that came with my first T1i DSLR (sorry my old foggy brain won't pull the name out of my head at this time). If your not editing "RAW" or "DNG" files then this Canon editor does a great job with JPEGS. In my opinion, it may well be the best JPEG editor out there and can be downloaded from the Canon site. They also have a decent Raw file editor, but it only works with Canon "CR1" files and I now shoot a Ricoh/Pentax.

I use PhotoScapeX. PhotoScapeX can be used accurately with 3 or 4 clicks or you can REALLY get into serious editing. Here are a couple of sites for you, Enjoy. Be sure to select Mac/or Windows. Get the free version (just below the "Pro" download) first (it never expires), and you can always upgrade. Also, please do yourself a favor and watch the following YouTube videos to see if you would be interested and for training.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWC-SAuYOzw&t=325s Instruction and download info
http://x.photoscape.org/Major Tip: Just to the left of the "Viewer Button" on the top left of the PhotoScapeX screen is an odd incomplete "Male Looking Symbol".
Click on that symbol and that exposes the "How to do it" on the PhotoScapeX features.
I am also a fan of Topaz AI Products. However, since you are a Picasa fan, I assume that you are after "Free" so I won't bore you with blah, blah, & blah, grin.
Best Wishes, and . . .

Now phone and internet are generally flat rate just like the software subscription but the electric or gas generally are not. Perhaps they Adobe should allow me to subscribe in the electric or gas model that is if I don't use the software I don't have to pay.
