I have been looking online for a used canon 80 D body in excellent condition. I looked at KEH, Adorama , ebay, amazon and all the usual choices. While searching I came accross a website called ShareGrid. It was designed for people who wanted to rent high end equipment from this community instead of buying it. Now people are able to list items for rent or sale. It kind of works the same way that ebay does as for a the transfer is concerned. I was able to buy the 80d body in like new condition for about $200 less than the prices I saw elsewhere. Its always good to have more options.

What is their return policy? Do they have any warranty options beyond the return policy? What form of payment do they accept and are their any payment protections if the equipment is not in the condition as advertised?

Its a small window. You get 48 hrs to accept or reject the item. After that the money gets transferred to the seller.Payment can be made by credit card or paypal. It was a very positive experience. I was able to text back and forth to the seller, and ShareGrid kept track of the purchase and the communications between seller and buyer.

I quickly checked it out, and the prices seemed high, sort of like a Craigslist affair. It will take time to develop, but it has potential.

Sounds good. My experiences from UHH through KEH and ebay is photographers selling to photographers tends to work best, but I've been sold faulty equipment via UHH and KEH and never ebay. The buyer protections are important and a 48-hr window may not be practical if you don't pay very close attention to this ticking clock.

There were quite a few for sale at a wide range of prices. I bid less than the asking price and my offer was accepted.

Roberts Used Photo Pro has been wonderful for many, many transactions. 180 day Guarantee, a long established business, good prices, condition always better than advertised. The single problem, a bad charger with a camera purchase was quickly replaced with the replacement charger sent second day. They also frequently post on line with Make an Offer. There are other very good ones, but my experiences put UPP #1 for me.

The potential usually ends when the company is bought up by another company, which then alters the policies and services for a more effective integration.

Ditto quixdraw's recommendation of Roberts Used Photo Pro - it's my go to for used equipment. They're very helpful and knowledgeable. I bought my low shutter count D3S from them.

Doesn't matter any way. The OP bought a Canon and after the warranty period USA or Gray are the same.

I like MPB and KEH. You will have a warranty and the ability to return the item if unsatisfactory. Adorama or B&H are ok too. I suspect that e-bay is a mixed bag depending on the seller. I have found e-bay prices to be high.

I just purchased a used Nikon D7000 from MPB. Similar to Roberts, Keh and Adorama. They had the largest selection and slightly better prices than the others. 180 day warranty, etc.. I took it on vacation and it worked well. The only thing that wasn't included was the English user manual. It came with the Spanish version only.
Speaking of that, what's a good source of used manuals and related books.

I've never heard of ShareGrid.

You didn't say what prices you were finding. Below are what I found at some of the well established and trustworthy dealers.

Canon 80D can be bought new at B&H Photo for $1100. A better deal there is 80D with EF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM for just $50 more. That lens normally sells for $600 when bought separately. It's the "premium" kit lens for Canon APS-C cameras.

IMPORTANT: All the new 80D at B&H are "Imported", which means they are gray market, so won't have a factory warranty. B&H offers a "store warranty" and is pretty reliable about making good, should there be any problems (which is rare).

B&H has also got used 80D for $710, body only or for $920 with the EF 18-135mm.

Adorama doesn't have any new 80D, but do have a half dozen used ones in very good to excellent condition, priced from $549 to $599.

MPB.com has 25 80D bodies from $609 to $639, depending upon condition and "mileage". One nice thing about MPB is they list how many shutter actuations the cameras have done. The 80D is rated to do 100,000 clicks, so some of the low mileage ones there have a whole lot of life left in them.

UsedPhotoPro.com (Roberts Camera) has four 80D bodies available used, ranging from $570 to $657, depending upon condition.

KEH.com surprisingly doesn't have any 80D right now.

They're out of stock at Canon USA Refurbished, too. The last price on them there was $719 body only or $719 with an EF 18-55mm STM lens (the more basic kit lens).

If you want to spend $1100, I bought a 90D for $1099 from a Canadian Camera Shop. The Canadian cameras carry a Canada/USA Warranty. They honor each other’s New Camera Warranty. I assume the 90D is an upgrade to the 80D. If the 80D has an advantage over the 90D, go for it. I’d do a used model with low shutter count, from EBay, from seller with 100% rating or near 100%. Wait until the right deal comes up. Usually occurs within a few weeks. This is the secret of buying at auctions. Don’t bid until the last few seconds (15 or so). Then I’d the maximum you can afford to pay or are willing to pay. You will only end up spending just enough to beat the prior bid. This is oftentimes $100 less than your actual bid. If you miss it, find another. They come up for sale almost daily. I have bought a number of Cameras in the past year with <10,000 shutter counts for very good prices. Don’t bid at all until the final moments. Bidding early only alerts the competition that you are waiting to bid and are interested and it runs up the final cost.
