I know we've talked about this before, but I could use some updated assistance in photo slideshows. I had Proshow Gold and loved it. As you know, it has been discontinued. I started having problems with it and eventually uninstalled it. I've tried Photostage, and I've discovered that when I download my images, they show up with an ugly blue-green grade to them. I tried editing each image separately but found it both tedious and inadequate to restoring the images as they were originally. I've sent a message to tech support and am still awaiting an answer as to how to correct this.

So...what photo software programs are you using? I'd prefer something I can add music to. What do you recommend...or not recommend? I'd also prefer something I don't have to subscribe to, if possible. (Photopia was supposed to be PSG's replacement...but I'm not keen on spending $25 a month to use it.) I'm willing to buy a license, as I use these slideshows commercially.

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

You could just get a digital frame, they work great. I ran my last one for at least 3 or 4 years before it failed, and it wasn't an expensive one. Another option, I run an old Windows Screen saver slide show on my desk top all the time. Not sure what Win 10 or soon to be 11 have.

Does your copy of the software no longer work or do what you want it to do?

Jeeze, the FTP program I'm using is from 1995.
It still works and does exactly what I need an FTP program to do.

I suggest you read a recent thread on that very subject:
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-712268-1.html
Some good options in there.
I'm in the same boat.
My copy of ProShow Producer has finally gone kaput, like two days ago.
(I loved that program!!)
I bought Photopia a while ago to replace it, but am not a fan at all.
Looking at a suggestion by dpullam Ashampoo HD-4 (at this moment, only $9.99!!!)
and PTE-AV It's a wayyyy more expensive but looks as good as as easy as ProShow Gold & Producer with the ability to add video files and multi-track audio.

I'm in the process of swapping computers and will buy one when that's done.

I use Microsoft Power Point. Some times it gets a bit tedious resizing the pictures for each slide but what the hay, I've got time on my hands. You can convert the finale version to a pdf for distribution. if you like, give me a message and I'll send you a dropbox link for a couple.

Video editing software works well… if you’re familiar with the work of Ken Burns on PBS, that’s the sort of thing you can do with it.

DaVinci Resolve is free to try. Macs come with iMovie, which I’ve used for 20 years to make videos and slide shows and hybrids of same. Add video, still photos, pan and zoom effects, titling, music, narration, and more… export the results as video and upload to YouTube, etc.

Try googling "slideshow software with music"; there are several options it came up with.
While not exactly what you are looking for, I 'Personalize' my desktop background using the 1 minute option to change the background (I have a file with the photos I want to rotate in and out).
I still have, and use ProShow Producer. Yes, it is/was excellent!

In Windows 10 (and likely other versions) you can open an image in Photos, then click on the upper right tools icon (the ... symbol) and choose slideshow. This will work for all the photos in that folder. It is a single session and does not automatically launch.

I use Davinci Resolve 17. Free and does everything with tons of tutorials on you tube

In windows 10 if you choose to use it . You can put a selection of photos in a folder . Click on the Start icon in the bottom left of the taskbar , click on settings , click on Personalization , under Background pick Slideshow , open up Change picture every, and choose how long to show between photos . The choice is 1 min , 10 min , 30 min and longer . Not sure why they don't offer other choices between 1 min and 10 minutes . Then you just close out everything to where you can see your background and watch the photos change all by them self. Just another choice for you to select from if you choose to . Tommy

I use Adobe Bridge on my Mac. It comes free with your PS/Lightroom $10 per month subscription. Access it under the "view" top level menu. I used to use Nikon's free "View NX-2, but that seems to have been dis-continued.

I used some kind of video software - most likely Corel VideoStudio. It worked well and was easy.

How do people deal with music for their slideshows? I remember uploading a slide show on youtube (for a private group access) and it was rejected because of music licensing. In that particular case I contacted the composer and and explained my intended use and complimented his music. He was very nice to give me permission to use that particular piece and I ended up publishing on Vimeo (again for a private group).
I understand that you don't need to have a license if it's for private use on your computer. Does anyone have any tips how to get a license (permission) for music to use in a slideshow - not for profit but for friends and family viewing?

There’s an advanced, paid version of DR for professional use, but most casual users won’t need it.

My son uses DR on both a Win10 PC and an M1 MacBook Air, and says it’s fine either way. He prefers Apple Final Cut Pro, though (as do I). He also uses Adobe Premiere Pro, on Windows and Mac. (He’s a media studies student at UNCG, so he’s exposed to many different applications.)

Each of those apps has subtle advantages and disadvantages. Their interfaces and workflows are significantly different.

I’ve always worked with “production music” companies. Google that term and several will pop up.

Cost depends on hundreds of factors. Read the fine print…

We have 4 photoframes in the house but to make a slideshow I use MS PowerPoint. Especially useful to create show that will play on a computer that does not have PowerPoint installed.
