CS6 was released in 2012. For a lot of reasons, including new features, support, and compatibility with your OS, I urge you to subscribe to PS CC. While others will say the happily use CS6, it's not a good long-term strategy. If you can find a copy of CS6, it's probably pirated. And, watch out for viruses.
Thanks, Don. Your warning of 6's virus likelihood is appreciated. I currently use CS5.1 and earlier found CC loaded in a miniature configuration into my new computer (Dell) that I could not get to a size where I could use it, read it even. I no longer find Adobe's Help of much assistance, so I'm really reluctant to go through a second siege with their subscription edition. Again, thank you.

My system currently run CS6. Runs fine for its purpose.
IMHO, going for subscription is greediness in Adobes part.
I have a very old PC that conked out and that one was running PS5.5
That was more than enough even for todays' editing needs if it can open the file & handle the size.

same here 'cept i'm using 7.....enough for me.....
There are often people selling old software on eBay - or sometimes, just the key numbers. Whether or not they will work is another question. Photoshop Elements might work almost as well, and you can buy it separately.

Some older software just needs a valid key. Other software needs to confirm that key with Adobe's servers.
Examples: Lightroom 5 and older just needs a key to install (key = license key = serial number). But, the software can't be updated thru the final point-update. Here you'd need the final install file with all the updates.
Lightroom 6 needs both a key and that key in your Adobe profile for verification, something that had to have been done before Adobe stopped selling the software in Dec 2017. Again, the software can't be updated thru the final point-update, but Adobe can provide the final install file, again assuming you made a valid, historical, and documented purchase in the past.
Our OP may have luck with CS6 which may follow the LR5 mode, except for the inability to update the software through the final point-update, enabling camera RAW file types and resolving software problems through Dec 2016. Then again, they may pay for unlicensed software only to find they've wasted their money when trying to install and / or use.

I really think Adobe's subscription is a bargain for anyone who uses either Lightroom or Photoshop or both. I don't believe buying an old copy from unknown sources will benefit you and the subscription will be cheaper in the long run. Trying to import 'way outdated software is not only a hassle, but is dangerous.
If your use of Photoshop is too little to justify in your mind the subscription, I would say your only recourse is to try some of the Photoshop "equivalents". GIMP is one such, although I believe Photoshop has more capability (but my assessment of GIMP is probably a decade old).

Not as good a bargain as having a copy of CS6.

I would suggest trying Affinity Photo. It is a very good substitute for Photoshop and you can buy it instead of renting Photoshop from Adobe. I have been using it since early 2017 and all updates have been free. It is only $50 and you can get a free 30 day trial to see if you would like it, before buying. Another very good option is ON1 Photo RAW 2022. They also have a free 30 day trial too.

...is to me, anyway. There are many improvements and new functions on the later editions...not to mention ongoing updates. All for the cost of a couple of cups of coffee per month. I know that's astonishingly expensive (ahem)...but I, for one, love being current.
It's so easy to go along, follow the crowd, to subscribe ...
I would suggest buying Affinity Photo or Photoline instead of PS6. I own both and no longer have any need for anything Adobe. My Photoline user interface image is attached. I can run Nik, Luminar 4 and any of my external programs from within Photoline.

Best to go with the Ps - Lr CC Subscription at this point. $10 per Mo. and always up to date.
I personally I still using my copy of Ps CS6 Extended. I have my original program DVD and keys. I use it with no real problems on a Windows 10 Dell. My PC came with Win 10 installed and so I transferred my Ps CS6 to it from my old laptop. But as others have described you might have a hard time with such a new installation today. Also I am beginning to miss the new features of Ps CC Classic. And I think you might as well.
