Vintage Honeywell Strobonar Flash - Model 892, with AC power supply, booklet, and empty battery pack holder.
I bought this flash unit new in the early 70's and only used it on an umbrella stand for about six portrait sittings using the AC adapter. I never used the battery pack.
In excellent ++ condition and works perfectly

Tom; I have been looking at your Strobonar for a few weeks. Maybe I'm nutz, but I've always wanted one. We had two at the Thule AFB Photo Lab in the '60s. They had the heavy, clunky rechargeable battery packs with a shoulder strap which just barely fit over our cold weather gear. Anyway, What is the guide number? And, do you know if the batteries mentioned are still available? Thanx; Carl

Do you have the Strobeye? Batteries are ocassionally advertised, not from Eveready. I believe a company in Canada makes a substitute. Remember, these require 510 volt batteries. Get your fingers across the contact and it will light you up... Needless to say, they are expensive. I know this because I have one and while I use it once in a while it is alway with A/C.

The dial on the back shows f/16 at 10ft for asa100, so there’s your GN: 160.
If you can ever find a Strobo Eye you can make the battery last longer cuz this is a thyristor unit. I used one for years.

I read that also someone makes a substitute battery. No I don't have the Strobeye.

BTW 160 would be the normal lens GN.
These days when you encounter a claimed 160 GN that is usually the unit’s *maximum* GN achieved when the zoom head is focused narrowly for a tele lens. The normal lens GN for such units will be about half the telezoom maximized GN.
If this Honeywell followed the typical modern naming system, its model name would be 640 or 6400, reflecting its metric GN, which is 64. And as explained just above, this unit provides at least twice the light of any zooming flash named 640 or 6400.

I owned a number of Strobonars, starting with a 700 in 1970. They were great, although the KII output guide number of 80 was a bit low. One of the great draws for me, was the warmth of the older tube.
I used the 892 well into the 90's with a Quantum Turbo Battery. It provided more than adequate power. Quantum still makes the adapter cord.
PS - Over on the "Bay", there's a seller which has an 880 (older tube), with all the accessories, including the Strobo-eye. Whopping price of $25. The Strobo-eye might be worth that by itself. I doubt the 510 battery is any good, though.

After you post I contacted Quantum regarding using there device with my 882. The following is his response;
"To be sure I looked that flash up and Quantum never listed any cable for the 880 series. It being a 500V flash explains why. The Turbo series is 325V. I have been sitting here thinking, years ago I remember someone mentioned that the CH cable connected to a Turbo did charge their 882. BUT, just because it does, doesn’t mean one should. It would not be very good for the Turbo."
