Bought and on back order. Tell me its not sitting in some storage container on a ship anchored off the coast of California. If so, I may not see it for many months.

Does anyone else have backordered items that drag on forever?

It's right next to my Nikon Fc w/ 28mm ordered in July. I think the ship's anchor is caught on an oil pipeline.

NikonRumors reported today that Nikon has pushed back availability of the lens until November 19th.

However, they report that the Zfc kit with the 28mm lens is currently available at Adorama. I checked and they say it is available for in-store pickup on Monday.

Is it not amazing how our expectations for receiving ordered items have changed over the years? I remember when I was a kid I would order some item from one of the ads in my comic books. You would cut out and fill in the little order form and then send it by mail to the vendor. Four to six weeks later the item would show up in your mailbox and I thought that was just amazing.

Now order it online and it is usually shipped the same day for delivery within a few days. I have ordered used camera gear from a well-known dealer and as long as my order is there before 2 pm, it is usually delivered the next day.

A few months ago I even had an Amazon order delivered the SAME DAY! I ordered it that morning and it was delivered that afternoon by an Amazon delivery truck. And that was considered normal shipping, not expedited. Turns out we were living within the delivery zone of an Amazon warehouse and my order had arrived early enough that it got on the truck that day. Where we live now, next-day delivery from Amazon is the norm for most items.

Yup, that is how it was when I lived in Pomona, CA. Amazon warehouses were only a few cities away.

Because in the old days for most items you can simply go to a store and buy it the same day. Today, many of us don't have the option to go to a store and buy the camera that we want. To make me excited about buying online they must deliver it the same day. That's the reason why they are improving delivery time for online purchasing.
However, in the case of the OP, they simply don't have the camera yet.

Perhaps you'd get a better answer by addressing this question to the people from whom you ordered the camera. Did you get a tracking number? That would also help. No one here knows where your camera is. However, you will be able to pass the time til it arrives by reading all the replies, including this one.

To the OP,

Yes, likely your camera had been delayed by the backup in Asia-to-America shipping. the “normal” is about 4 weeks to the west coast and additional 2 weeks east. right now, add 4 weeks to that. the average wait to unload a container ship is now 4 weeks. Normally 0-1. I monitor this every week for my business.

To all

This is not going to get better soon. so, for anyone who is not yet starting to by gifts for Christmas, the advise to to buy now when you find it in stock.

Yes I ordered a Lenovo laptop a week ago. They told me it's 4+ months before they can ship it.

As a member of Nikon Professional Services I get first dips on new Nikon products. When I needed the new Nikon 500 mm PF E 5.6 lens, I called NPS on the phone and they sent one they kept in stock to B&H and B&H had it sent directly to me, B&H had showed it for about 10 months on back order, but being a member of the manufactures professional organization, I got special treatment.
I believe Canon has a similar organization, you may want to investigate on how you can become a member, who knows, many be your next new Canon camera will not end up getting stuck in a container ship.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

While waiting you can pass the time trying to guess which ship your camera is on!

I think my 2020 tax return refund is on one of those ships. (5 months and counting!)

I ordered a telescope part in January just got it but that was supply line issue not container issue.
As a bonus when I opened the box it had a dozen bugs inside box that hopefully I got them all before getting loose in my house. I caught one and put it in a container with water to drown it so I can ID it. Lucky my item was in a separate box but even the inside box had one bug inside.

I had a similar issue with my tax return, we finally contacted our US representative, and his staffers helped get it for us.

We all do. I had to wait months for my new kitchen and bath cabinets. I'm waiting for tile and vinyl flooring now. It's gong to take a while so kick back and relax.
