I watched another video from Tony Northrup last night, and he came down strong against gray market gear. He unknowingly bought a gray market lens, and he had trouble getting it repaired. He finally found a shop that cheated and fixed it for him. If you think your item will never need repair, you can save some money, but if it were me, I'd always worry about something going wrong with it.

Great point. Buy from a camera dealer not eBay or other Grey market seller

In the case of Northrup he bought his lens used so even if he bought it from a dealer he wouldn't know.

Some time back I purchased a Nikon D610 body from the Roberts Camera used department. The camera was in great condition with about 29K shutter clicks, so I was happy. A bit later it occurred to me to check the serial number and found that it was a gray market body for Japanese distribution. But I am happy with it, since it has performed perfectly in the year or so that I have had it.

This is not meant to be a knock on Roberts, because I have purchased several bodies and lenses from them and have always been pleased with my purchases. I do wish, however, that reputable companies like Roberts would indicate if an item is gray market, since that might impact future repair possibilities.

Guess all us canon users use inferior equiptment?
I'm one who believes that the camera is an extension of the person's ability and they would have equal success with most equipment

Nothing wrong with proofreading your own post either. Guess you have an inferior phone that allows you to spell wrong

I left it alone, but technically, second best is now Sony with Nikon falling to third ...

Your one liners are as good as your technical knowledge

Good reason to never buy anything previously owned by TN. . .

We all know that CANON! is an acronym for Can't Afford Nikon Oh No!

We all know that gray market means, in the majority of the cases, that the importer of those genuine lenses will not repair grey market. Yes, the list is headed by Nikon.
I have used Nikon gear for over 55 years. I have been very satisfied with my cameras and lenses and I never gave a thought at it been No. 1. If Sony is No. 1 or Canon is No. 1 it makes no difference to me. I could have started with a Pentax and I am sure I would be today as satisfied as I have been with Nikon.

Regardless of manufacturer, we take a risk when we buy gray market.

I really don't know you, so I have to rely on instinct. Sometimes, you put posts on here that seem to be quite informative, then, at times, you ruin your image (in my eyes!) when you make statements like you did in this post. I would think you would know that Canon and Nikon both produce outstanding gear. I find it distasteful for anyone to so blatantly put down Nikon and, in effect, Nikon users. I may not be the awesome photographer you are, and I surely am not the "all knowing, intelligent person" you like to portray. But, I would not put down any camera brand or any user of a camera brand as you have done repeatedly. I put very little faith in what you say anymore. Oh, and by the way, I started out my "hobby" of photography with Canon gear. I switched to Nikon, and never looked back, I am perfectly satisfied with Nikon, understanding that I will never reach your stature as a photographer. Have a good day, Sir.
