I was browsing through my equipment and thought I would play around with one of the teleconverters. i slapped it on the back of the telephoto and ran a few exposures to see if I wanted to use it again. I really don't use the 2x any more, but thought I might in a pinch situation. These were captured from approx 20 foot away from the subjects. They are ok, but I don't think it replaces a good macro lens.

They probably would have been a bit better if I didn't have to use such a high ISO.

As I am sure you know there are different ways to achieve macro photography. Many photographers use only a tele lens, others use extension rings and others a true macro. I guess budget has something to do with it because macro lenses are not cheap.
A true macro lens has been designed by the manufacturer to achieve excellent results up to 1:1. In your case you have got very good results using a tele converter and in my case I have nothing against these images.

You cannot complain of the working distance either to photograph subjects like these. You have done a fantastic job with the tele converter.
Keep shooting with it.

I think the more recent versions of denoising software assist in providing for a more respectable final image.

Very nice, Dave. 1000 iso isn't really that high nowadays.

Thanks kpmac. I usually don't try to capture an image above ISO 800. I see images that are taken at ISO 3000 and 6400 that many people consider really great images. I find that about 800 one really ushers in the lack of resolution when cropping and a denoiser is used.

Your sharpness is fine. What bothers you may be the very narrow depth of field

I was thinking the same. I think the 1.4 works much better than the 2x. The overall acceptability is a very subjective kind of thing, I guess. Anyway thanks for the feedback.
