In American Football, the offensive line is made up of:
Left Tackle, Left Guard, Center, Right Guard, and Right Tackle (as seen by the Quarterback).
Their job is to protect the Quarterback, and to open up holes for the Running Back(s).
The Center snaps the ball…OK…he’s sort of unique, but he also must block. One can certainly understand why they call a Guard a Guard…after all, they guard the quarterback. So also do the Tackles. But why call them Tackles? …. When…if they “tackle” someone on the defense, they get called with a penalty for HOLDING. Rather strange, doncha think?
Maybe they should call them don't tackles.
Ya know, it would be a lot easier if they said, "Excuse me!" rather than chucking folks about!
😂🤣
Why do we say "heads up" when we mean duck?

I haven't watched a game yet this year. Do they kneel or now stand for the national anthem? If standing I may watch again.
Methinks your misunderstanding of football terms starts with the using of Dallas Cowboys as football players…
They kneel still & now play the Black "National Anthem" !!
Maybe change to outside guard

Maybe named for the defensive side??
I don't watch the NFL or the NBA because of the idiots who kneel. MLB as well.

Good question. I’m going to have to look that up.
But since you pictured the Cowboys - they had one of the best offensive lines to ever play the game. They were called the Great Wall of Dallas.

Well, "The Great Wall of China" WAS taken already.

I don’t know how true it is but I heard it was a holdover from when the same guys played offense and defense.

How about "watch your head"? How does one even do that?
