I shot my photo, I'm finished with editing (Paintshop Pro 2022 for me). What is the best way to get it on UH?

The photo should be under 8mb in size to 'qualify'. Do you reduce the size of the photo (lines) until you get to the 8mb limit, or do you use the little slider that reduces the quality until you acheive 8mb.

Both will have a detrimental effect on the photo, I accept that, but is one better than the other - or do both do exactly the same via. a different route.

CHG_CANON posted a most excellent article on this subject a while back. I think the topic was "Resizing"..?
I usually save my images that I'm going to post at a 2 meg limit so they load quick on the viewers machine.

There’s no benefit to posting a photo wider than 2048 pixels.

Since you have posted many photos to UHH previously, can you tell us what you mean by "under 8 mb to qualify," John? Are you asking about a different site, such as for a contest?

UHH allows 20 mb files, but as SuperflyTNT points out, it's the dimensions that are what's important for simple online viewing.

This post speaks with why resizing the pixel resolution of the digital image is the best approach, maintaining the maximum JPEG quality. There are examples, via screen captures, at the end of the post. But, PaintShop Pro is not one of the specific examples.

Thank you all.

Superfly, 2048 (longest side) is the size I use for Facebook postings and they like the image to be under 4mb. And I see your point, but if you have a higher definition screen surely it pays to use that size? Also, you'd gain benefit from a higher resolution if you use the double download option which I sometimes do.

Linda, I don't use any other site comparable to this one and I'm sure I read somewhere that 8mb was the limit - and I've stuck to that for all my posts - or less. I've not seen (or can't recall) anything about a 20mb limit and I can't find a reference to size in the HELP item 'How to post a Picture'.

CHG - I'll download your suggestion and try it's recommendations.

I save pictures as JPEGs, 1500 on the long side.

No doubt I asked Admin directly years ago It was helpful to know when attempting to upload raw files for others to edit. Attached is a raw file around 19 or 20 mb (raw files do not display a thumbnail):

....unless it's for editing, in which case the bigger the better (in the case of TIFF or DNG you can usually keep it under the 22MB limit by limiting the long edge to 2300 pixels or thereabouts).

I will usually reduce the size of my images but most of the time not necessary. But for protection, I usually make the image as small as possible.

I reduce them to number 1 in PSE.
Very reduced size, look just fine on a monitor and load quickly.

Thank you all. br br Superfly, 2048 (longest si... (show quote)

The 20mb limit was not for an individual image, but for all the images in a single post. Ten 2mb images in a single post would be the max.
