Photoshop Elements 2021 vs. earlier version.

Ever since I installed Photoshop Elements 2021 on my computer it has become the only Adobe option that appears on my "open with" window. I also have an earlier version of Elements that I would like to use while I'm learning the 2021 version. I've figured out by using a really round about way of opening a file in the older version but if anyone knows how it can be done easily, I'd really like to know how. I don't mind that the 2021 Elements appears on my options list but I didn't realize that my earlier version would disappear from the list. It'd be great if I could get both versions listed on "open with." Thanks, Ace

This 'might' work.
Go into (Windows) settings. On the first screen search for 'open with'. A blank screen will come up but just wait. Might take a minute or three for a list of file 'types' to appear. Go through the file types and select the programme, app you want to use. On earlier versions of windows you could select more than one app but I haven't tried it on Windows latest version.
Cheers

You can also right click on the image icon and select 'open with'. If he app you want doesn't show up, select choose another app at the bottom of the list.

Hi Bill, Thanks but I've done that. The app I want doesn't appear with the other apps on the list.

If all the other suggestions don't work, just open the older version of Elements FIRST, and use the file selection option to open whatever you want from there. All things do not run in one direction only.

Cahale's suggestion is an excellent option.

Mine (not sure if it's the same thing Tony is saying): go to where you set up the default "open with" and choose your earlier PSE. Now, simply double-clicking the photo will open it in your earlier version. It will be interesting to learn if that now replaces or includes 2021 in the right-click/open-with list also.

Too late to edit my earlier comment, but this is my reference:

On the Start menu, select Settings > Apps > Default apps.

Locate the PSE.exe file in the Windows programs directory folder(s) or Adobe folder in your Drive directory (generally Drive C). Once found, make a shortcut to place on your Home Screen. Once it is there, you can also easily make copies of the shortcut if you want (I have a folder on the Home Screen for all my photo apps and programs). You also can right click on the shortcut and Pin to task bar. Clicking on any of the shortcuts will open the program.

As far a making the older version an Open With option, the Open With list has a choice of Other. Click that; locate the older PSE.exe file as described above, and click on that. There should also be an option To Alway Use This Program, which you can select for now. You may have to go through a similar process when you are ready to make your new version the preferred program.

I’m on windows 10 and when I click an image file, the Open With box pops up and shows all image viewing applications on the computer for me to select from. I have at least a half dozen apps the show up. I didn’t have to do any configuration work to the system to have it do that as each new installation shows up automatically. Otherwise, you could just open your preferred editor when you start to do editing and select the file from it.

I don't know what older version of Elements you have. There was a major format revision between Elements 10 and 13. After that, each new release has mostly changes for Beginner and Guided Modes. Very few changes for Expert Mode. There's nothing that you can do in Beginner or Guided Modes that you can't do better in Expert Mode.
You might consider buying a Photoshop Elements Book by Scott Kelby. He publishes a new one every time a new Elements release comes out. You may be able to save some money by buying a used book or one written for a recent previous edition, say Elements 17 or newer.

This is exactly what to do. All else is useless gibberish.
