FEDEX STRIKES AGAIN

On Aug. 31, 2021 I ordered some photo paper from Red River Paper (great paper by the way). I got the FEDEX status notice that the delivery date was Sep. 1. I knew that was not possible because their status said that it had not left Dallas. So, on Sept 3, the status said that my delivery was in Chandler, Az (I live in Mesa, 9.4 miles from center of Chandler) and it was on the truck out for delivery. Every evening I got status update that it was back at the Chandler facility. Next morning "out for delivery". This got old in a HURRY!!! So finally on the 12th I filed a lost shipment claim. Mysteriously, I received the paper yesterday, 13th. The status said that it took approximately 12 hours to get from Dallas to Phoenix, then a few hours to Chandler, then 12 days to Mesa just 9 miles away. HELLO!!!!

A little history on FEDEX. Back in the late 1982 a startup company called Roadway Package Systems began doing overland shipping. By 1998 they were out of business because they could not compete with the big dogs. They were awful. I tried them a few times and each time my shipment suffered damage, got lost or was delivered to the wrong destination.

But in 1998 FEDEX, which lacked a ground service, acquired them.

I will only send things by FEDEX that need to be there in one or two days and are handled by air transport. That has always worked for me. FEDEX Green (RPS) is a joke - for all the reasons you cited in your post. Specify USPS or UPS - and least you will improve the odds that you will get what you ordered.

Be careful! It could be a scam.

How do you do that? If you order online, you don't usually get a choice. The vendor chooses. Occasionally you can put notes into your order, or do you call them?

Solution: Don't order everything last minute! Place your order well in advance and assume that delivery will not be on time, that it may indeed take a week or two longer than the estimation you are given. This will save you from frustration, anger and going into a panic.

I did not choose FEDEX, the shipper did.

About a year ago, I purchased a lens from B&H for my D750. B&H shipped via USPS, and all updates were as expected until delivery day. Post Office reported the package was delivered at the front door (why don't delivery folk ring doorbells any more?). I filed a claim, which was closed a few days later with: "Uh, well, we uh delivered it to the wrong address. File a claim with B&H". The next day my neighbor put it on my doorstep. Don't use FedEx, UPS or USPS. Use your neighbor!
