According to the news this update is required to close a vulnerability expoited by Israely security services (NAS I think) to track terrorists who are known for using cell phones to coordinate their activites. That would have been fine except that the Israelis sold it to other Governments claiming that they only sold it to "good" Governments. But, as our founding fathers knew there is no such thing as a "Good" Government unless it's activities are kept under scrutiny. What's interresting is that this Israeli "app" became public knowledge some time ago. I wonder what kept Apple from closing it sooner.

I just updated my iPhone and iPad to 14.8, so I am not sure which update you are talking about. I did this in preparation form the new IOS 15 release on 9/22/2021. It was good that I did this because my beautiful bride got me the iPhone 12 max pro, she gets my iPhone XS and my oldest grandson gets her iPhone 8 Plus. I just finished transferring the data from her old phone to the iPhone XS. Once the new IOS has been released I will be downloading the new operating system.
