hi, I have a canon 7d mark ii. for some reason I lost my focus screen in the viewfinder. I'm not able to see the focus square in the viewfinder to track my subject. its also missing from the display screen on back of the camera. is it broke or did I hit a button by mistake. I'm new to the camera.
thanks Greg

Do you have a downloaded copy of the user manual as a PDF? There's a chart of settings beginning on page 71. From there, every setting option is discussed for the next several pages.

Yes, there are settings for seeing it or to not see it. You've probably selected something in the menu that caused this to happen. Some of the settings are a little vague about what they mean unless you are really a good study. I've made this mistake before but it's not easy to remember exactly what setting it is....

Look here, a lot easier to understand than the manual. I have used their recommendations to set up three cameras when I first bought them. Later as I learned and got used to the cameras I changed some things.

Turn on your 7DII.

Press "Menu" button.

Navigate to the "AF" (magenta) tab, then to the 5th page under that tab (i.e., the 5th "dot" to the right... the last of the five "dots" under that tab).

Once there, navigate to the 2nd item "AF point display during focus"

There are five options there. If you never see any AF points in the viewfinder, you probably have it set to the last one: "Disable". Personally I either use "Selected", which as the name suggests only shows the selected point(s) or "All" which shows all points all the time, with a box around the active/selected point(s). I honestly haven't ever tried the other two options, so don't know how they differ.

Once you choose a mode more to your liking, simply press the "Set" button to save that setting, then press the "Menu" button again to close the menu.

Note: Menu navigation can be done using either the top and back dials... OR... using the joystick.
