I shot this in Paris few years ago and thought is was interesting. I seldom make an effort at street photography, I would appreciate any comments.

Interesting, but it seems that along with a good photo, a caption stimulates an expectation of a story to be told by the photo. Note that many experiment with a b/w, but that is certainly personal preference. Keep shooting!

Great start!!!
Did you happen to shoot this image in RAW? If you did open it in raw and open up the shadows and tone down the exterior just a bit!!

Not raw unfortunately, I did try to bring out detail in shadows but so far not so much.
Thanks

In your first attempt you have stumbled upon one of the struggles of street photography: what in the shot, if anything, should be level or plumb.

If you tried to crop or rotate this shot in order to affect level or plumb then you set your self an impossible task. I don't particularly value symmetry or plumb or level or square since I know that most of the world is not. And even if my subject is very plumb/level/square, I know my position creates vanishing points on everything.

Sometimes if I know the subject is wonky I will intentionally move my position or add something like a Dutch angle or intentionally crop it to not make it look like I am trying to make it square. Otherwise I can end up with a bit of an uncanny valley.

Interesting you noticed that, I did look at trying to square this up but at least two elements of the composition are out of plumb and/or square. Overall appearance conveys the look in the old Latin Quarter of Paris where this was shot.

Nice one, makes you wonder why that person is sitting behind the door!

I like it. The door and its surroundings in themselves make an interesting shot, and then I saw the foot, making the photo more intriguing.

I do like this shot just as it is. Out of plumb, out of square and with a mysterious foot about to leave or to welcome you inside . . .
