Staying in a yurt

My wife is not a camper, but when she saw the location of the yurts that the Utah state parks have for rent near Dead Horse Point, she was sold. There is an extended wait time because there are very few yurts to rent.

Why do this? These yurts are in the middle of a dark sky area. At night there is no intrusive light. The stars usually are crystal clear. Our visit, however, was in the middle of the smoke. The Milky Way was large and overhead, but not as sharp as usual.

There is no water and your bring your own bedding. The rest rooms, with running water and flush toilets, were a short walk away.

The true test - she wants to go back.

Looks like a whole lot of scrub around you. The real appeal must be above.

I got to show this to my wife! Her idea of camping is, as it is often said, the Holiday Inn. Is this what it is called Glamping?

Very nice series Mike, reminds me of the Gers we stayed in Mongolia, only that his yurt appears to be more spacious and neater!

To me the appeal is that the past three days of posts came from no more than ten miles away. To my wife, the dark sky was the prize. All that scrub is all that there was around us, no light.

From what my wife found in her research, yes. The Wall Street Journal did an article on glamping and listed "Moab under canvas" which is outside the parks down US 191 from Moab as a glamping site. Our research did not reveal any particular advantage there (and higher costs). They do, however, allow pets.

It was a rare common solution, Bruce.
