I’m looking to buy a prime lens for my Sony A6300 for astro photography. Low aperture and around 35mm. Any suggestions. Should I stick with Sony or sigma and does sigma support lens stabilization? Thanks, Walt.

Most astro photographers I know use a wider lens, esp. on an APS-C camera. Here's a comprehensive list of lenses for A6xx bodies. The Samyang, aka Rokinon (they're identical lenses from the same factory but the Samyang mark is usually a bit better in price), 12mm f2.0 lenses, (either the older MF or newer AF model) are probably the best bang for the buck for astro work on the A6xx line.

Astro photography tends to be long exposure shots which means a tripod is mandatory. Lens stabilisation should be turned off when using a tripod.

Keep in mind the wider angle also allows for longer exposures without putting the ISO into the stratosphere. Something like the 14/2.8 Rokinon is a popular option at a reasonable price, lots of used ones out there.

Thanks for that. I do have a tripod but would also like the lens for hand held street photography. Appreciate your help.

The camera has a stabilized sensor. Any lens you use will be stabilized. Pick what will suit your needs best. Older glass and adaptors make it a fun way to put together an assortment of lenses that won't break the bank.

Astro photography requires a wider angle lens, I would recommend the Sony 20 mm 1.8 lens. It has an excellent reputation and is extremely sharp.

The Sony 24 mm would also be an excellent lens.

Unfortunately, the Sony a6300 is not image stabilized. Among the Sony APS-C cameras, only the a6500 and the a6600 are stabilized.
