Looking through the garage, I found an unopened 3-pack of Playtex gloves - the big yellow rubber ones.  The price was $1.98.  Just out of curiosity, I looked on Amazon - $12.98 for the same thing.  Amazing. I have no idea how old they are.

They're probably old enough to disintegrate if you try to put them on.

When in college I checked out a book that hadn't seen the light of day since the late 40's. In it the apparent last user left a 'Nestles' candy bar wrapper as a page marker. I don't remember the ounces but in the upper right corner there was a printed circle with 5 cents in it. Aren't they about a buck and a half now? Yikes JimM

I grew up in Memphis. The go-to snack cakes there were Hostess, not Tasty Cake. One day they went from 10 cents a pack to 15 cents. Their sales crashed! After a couple of weeks the price was rolled back to 12 cents. I think we as consumers are prepared for incremental price increases but a jump of 50% will cause a rebellion.

But do they still work? Back about 25 years ago I went to a shoe store closing down. They had sneakers for around 20.00 a pair that normally sold in the 80.00 price range. I wear a 14/15 shoe so often my shoes cost more than the smaller sizes. I loaded up and bought 5 or 6 pair. Well, since I no longer did any athletic activities I only wore sneakers one or two days a week. Two pair lasted me a long time. One day several years later I decided to break out a new pair. They fell apart in my hands! I guess they suffered the same fate as tires when they dry rot from setting around for a long time!
