Wouldn't mirrorless be better for newbies?
Mirrorless have more features and computational gizmos to master than do DSLR's.

Not really. My Fuji mirrorless Cameron are actually easier and more intuitive to use than my DSLRs.
The other brands of mirrorless cameras I have are no harder to master than any of my DSLRs.

I do think mirrorless is better suited for beginners. In fact I don't think most beginners should use DSLR.

Why would anyone recommend yesterday's technology for a newbie?
My daughter recently asked me to recommend a camera for her. Said she thought she might be interested in taking pictures. I told her to start using the camera in her smartphone, which she is now doing. If the day comes when she wants something better, and knows why, I'll help her get a mirrorless camera, and lenses.
