Please help: D500 ISO Button display behavior

I have a Nikon D500. I do NOT want to re-assign the ISO button to another function. I just want to change the display behavior after the ISO Button is pressed.

I seem to recall that there is a "hack"/setting that makes pressing the ISO Button show the current ISO value PERSISTENTLY on the "Top Right Shoulder" Control Panel; until the ISO button is pressed again.

That would make it so much easier, changing the ISO w/just one finger, by turning the Main Command dial; & NOT have to hold down the ISO Button.

Thanks in advance!

I am not sure what you are asking...
ISO value is always visible in the top display as well as when using the viewfinder or the live display.

Thanks for jumping in!

Please re-read my first post in the context of this reply, keeping in mind the subject line…

I was not asking _where_ the 'current ISO Value' is displayed.

I was asking abt _possible_ changes to the BEHAVIOR of the D500 displaying the 'current ISO Value' in the Control Panel, EVEN after releasing the button (via a "hack" / setting), so you do NOT have to hold the ISO Button down _while_ turning the Main Command dial to change the ISO.

This would make for a much simpler, one-finger process … with the "hack" / setting in place. In this scenario, after changino the ISO setting, you'd press the Button again to get the Control Panel to revert it's display to SS, ƒ-stop, etc.

I seem to recall having that "hack" / setting implemented, but someone changed my settings & I can't find how to get it back.

Thanks in advance!

Ask Steve Perry. If anyone knows, it is him. (He writes books on Nikons.)

I think you are referring to Custom->f6 "Release Button to Use Dial"?? (Page 114 of D500 Menu Guide)

Rognongno, your referral worked like a charm! Steve quickly & succintly provioed me w/the reference in Settings->Custom Settings->F->6 Release Button To Use Dials; which yields a yes or no option.

When choosing Yes, one need only press the ISO Button , let go, thumb the Main Command dial, change to the desired ISO & then press the ISO button again to go back to the Control Panel (C.P.) displaying the default info i.e. SS, ƒ-Stop, etc.

Also, releasing the shutter, or the Time-Out that is set on the camera will also return the display fm the current ISO Value to the default info display in the C.P.

Thanks again!

aflundi…

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed. Rongnongno earlier (to what I saw) steered me to a working pro / author who writes on Nikons, & he gave the same answer.

BTW, since you gave that answer, it also made me feel better, that I was able to include the relevant info well enough to get the "hitting-the-nail-on-the-head" answer.

Thanks again,

Rongnongno, tnx for posting Steve's site!

To All: Steve Perry's ebook (Secrets To Nikon AutoFocus System - DSLR" (available at the site given above) is a great resource.

It was recommended to me when I first got into Back Button Focus (BBF) & it helped me greatly to uderstand all the ins & outs of BBF, & the rest of the great Nikon AF system & what makes it tick.

The book improved my knowledge & understanding greatly; & the camera-targeted section on BBF is worth the whole price of the book… I use BBF exclusively now & it is quite reasonable for a technical book of this quality- I believe back then i paid just $15 for it.

Get the book, read it & benefit fm better understanding of how your Nikon AF works, & improve your photography by better knowing "what is going on under the hood" & using that knowledge in making your images!
