How did the weekends fly by so fast?? Just a reminder folks, it's the fleeting days of summer, enjoy them and don't feel it's necessary to comment on each UHH post. There is no "host" on the weekends. It is our vacation week coming up and wifi will be iffy or nonexistent, so I may not be back for a while. A few nights ago after a rainy day, we had a magnificent sunset - orange, purple, yellow, gold. Tried some some different things... Backlight is one of my favorite things.

OK, now I'm confused; not sure whose "thread" I'm on, so....

..........I'll just have to thank both Pat and Lesley for starting
this "Free Weekend" challenge, and also for being so diligent
in all your continuing efforts to make UHH such a wonderful
place to "chill."

Thank you both, Ladies!

Had the opportunity to tour High Point Mansion in Hershey, PA
today with my wife, Sally.

As some of you may know, Milton S. Hershey founded Hershey
Chocolate many years ago after two or three failed attempts at
starting a candy company.

After moving to Lancaster, he was successful in making caramel
candy with his new company, Lancaster Caramel Company. He sold
the company to American Caramel Company in 1900 for a whopping
$1,000,000.00. In today's "dollars," that's OVER $32,000,000.00.
Not too shabby for a young man who dropped out of school at the age of 13 or 14.

In 1908, Mr. Hershey built the beautiful mansion overlooking his new
chocolate manufacturing company. The mansion was over 7,500 square
feet and had five bed rooms and seven indoor bathrooms. Another
fascinating "tid bit" is that Mr. Hershey's home was heated by steam
provided by boilers at the chocolate factory. BTW, this man is one of
the most generous gentlemen ever, sponsoring and educating thousands
of disadvantaged youth for over 100 years!

Thank you for the pics and info on Mr. Hershey. I read an article years ago in the Wall Street Journal about the school he started, taking disadvantaged youth, providing housing, food, smart clothing, etc so that all could feel good about themselves as they got a first rate education. A great American. Thanks again for the reminder.

Youre on the right thread, Tim. Hershey had quite a history. I had not seen his mansion. I have seen the Hershey Medical Center and know he is responsible for providing a top notch medical center and the education of physicians and nurses. The mansion (and the Hershey Gardens) are spectacula. Nice work on capturing the mansion.
