No such problem has occurred. The extra filter is not involved.

This is one of UHH’s most archetypically fuggedup threads in a looooooong while. Riddled with useless “advice” and even toadally lacking in entertainment value. The blind leading the blind yet all the while pretending to be photographers. Disgraceful.

I had written a lengthy (excellent!) reply, and the Internet went out. : ( Below is a basic version.

You know the outer ring is supposed to rotate, right? Either bring the lens to a camera shop/repair shop or get a hack saw and cut through the outer, rotating filter section and remove it. Next, cut through the attaching ring that is rotating.

I had the same problem with my UV glass. I had to take a pair of pliers and very gentle twist the filter off of the lens. Now I put don’t twist them on all the way. I can not say enough about not putting too much pressure on the filter. Be very gentle.

One problem is that the CP filter is the same diameter as the camera lens so it is hard to get a grip on the filter. Take some masking tape and make about three careful wraps around the filter making sure it does not go onto the lens itself. Now when you grip the filter, you will not be gripping the lens as well since it will be slightly higher. Gently pull the filter forward in case as some have suggested the threads do not go all the way to the filter's base, and need to be brought forward to reconnect with the threads in the the lens.

I use those thin rubber gloves (like the medical people use) to hold them while turning. I don't actually put them on. Just use them over the place I need to grab.

I also have various filter wrenches, but they do not work as well as the gloves.

I like to jam my filters on sooper dooper mega tight and never remove them.
