I have used Luminar AI for the past year and other than being a little slow have had no major problems, until the latest update. Now when I open Luminar AI I get a pop up advising me I must download windows 10 to use this program. I currently have windows 8.1 and all has worked fine. I have read many entries from others who have had difficulties completely this change and to be completely honest, I would not have the slightest idea how to solve most problems. is there a way around this?

Update to Win 10. Windows 8 is one of the worst releases of Windows ever (and no longer supported or safe), and Windows 10 is the best release so far and much safer. You’re going to run into this issue more and more with your applications - time to bite the bullet and upgrade your OS.

I have the same problem with a number of software updstes lately. There is no fix other thsn updating Windows 8.1, if you can, or getting a nuw computer running Windows 10.

They probably made this decision for a couple of reasons, Windows 8 and 8.1 are no longer officially supported by Microsoft. This means that Microsoft can and will start pulling code from application programmable interfaces when they go through code optimization. Syklum doesn't want to risk that happening then have to explain that Microsoft made a change.

2. Windows 10 is stable and has been for several years. If you are still running Windows 8/8.1 is your hardware from the period in which those versions were released. If so you are probably going to need to get a new computer but you can try and download Windows 10 to your current computer. Microsoft gives very minimal hardware requirements but actually using that configuration will be painful slow. It really doesn't make sense for Microsoft to support old hardware as some do not support things in the bios which allow for security updates.

As I understand it, Windows 10 has 5 yrs of support left. Windows 11 will be strictly 64 bits which means a lot of old stuff won't run. Emulated maybe, but that's likely to really slow things down.

That is true, however there are usually 64 bit versions available. You can't expect Microsoft continue old technology. It took them way to long to drop 16 bit support which also allowed software vendors to punt until they absolutely needed to. For many they went out of business because they were so late to the party

Then you should be able to run Windows 10 OK. This is a fairly old processor (2012), but it is a quad core and you have plenty of RAM. My only concern would be the drivers for the video and perhaps audio. Looks like this is a laptop - who made it? You might go to the manufacturer’s site and see if they have Win 10 drivers for the video.

More minor, but I recently had the experience that an unopenned USB camera would not work at all. I thought it was only bought certainly in the last 6 yrs, but no drivers exist for it period.
